I saw this on another forums before and thought I'd post it here as well. However, I'm not sure which forum most 3d software users would visit but I thought I'd just put it here.

Download THIS file (random file I found on net) and using 3ds max, just hit the render button.

    Plz don't change any settings.

Post how long it took to render, your processor, gpu, hardrive, and ram. For the hardrive, make sure u list the drive u installed max on.

    17.7 seconds.

I did it at my machine at work for the fun of it (I work at a VFX house) and sent it to the farm.

It took a quarter second. lol

But how about *evil voice* ONE HUNDRED XM PROCESSORS?!

Farms generally have more than just one or two pieces of silicon working together.

Awesome. I didn't think the firepro could pull that off but thats awesome. Since I believe the firepro is cheaper and are better for games. But I suspect the Quadro 3000 might be able to do better perhaps. At least thats what everyone says, that nvidia makes better drivers. But I'll take a firepro since its cheaper xD and near 5 seconds is just wow.

Yeah the farm is just a tad over 12,000 processors lol

I think it took longer for image to get transferred to my screen then it did the actual render. hahaha

And yes, no one uses ATI in major VFX houses. The drivers suck and are slow :)

Just for fun I did it here on my work machine excluding the farm.

my q3000 wont match my fp7820, but im sure the 5000 will.
and its true that most houses use Quadros but many do use the FP's now. take for Example the movie AVATAR it was done exclusively on FP 8000's.

I dont do anything professionally but from what I hear both side of the pro GPU's are good for drivers now. just some software doenst support ATI/AMD Stream

im actually impressed my wifes laptop can do that render half as fast as your desktop.
