    Hey everyone,

I was looking for a replacement for my G73 since the two i owned both had a mobo suicide. :(
Recently i looked around for a replacement since the issues with the G73 are not worth the money IMO.

So i found this machine: the XXODD XNI 8100, another Clevo barebone system.
    These are the specs.

    Processor: Intel Core i7 740QM (1,73GHz, 2,93GHz Turbo, 6MB)
    Graphics: 2x ATi Mobility Radeon HD5870 2GB (2x1GB) GDDR5
    Memory: 2GB DDR3 1333MHz (1x 2GB)
    1st HDD: 320 GB 5400rpm SATA HDD (hardware RAID0, 1 is supported)
    2nd HDD: None
    3rd HDD: None
ODD: DVD reader + burner combo
    Screen size: 18.4"
    Price: +- €2000

    Now the G73 costs about €150 to €200 less and comes with more memory, a blu-ray reader and 2 500GB 7200rpm HDD's.

Now is my question: should i get this one or should i wait a little longer till Asus probably fixes the issues with the G73?

    Thanks in advance!

well you will need 4gb more ram, another hard drive... so cost will be 400 more probably

but you will have 2 GPU...

If you want dual GPUs in crossfire thats a way to go. Just get 4gb memory and youre set - youll have a much better laptop than the G73JH than.
You can install 2 more HDs later yourself when you decide to / have the money / actually need them and upgrade the RAM if youll ever actually need / want more (or even upgrade the cpu if youll want). Its real easy to upgrade these Clevos :). No taking apart completely like the Asus, just take off the back panel and youve got access to everything.
    I say go for it.
I reccommend mySN since i see youre looking in the Netherlands (EU).
Any of the Clevos you choose there should be fine - a cheaper W860CU/W870CU with a single mobility 5870 (which you can configure the same as the Asus for well under 2000$, but youll be getting a better notebook for the price you pay), or a more expensive W880CU with a gtx 480m or one of the most expensive X8100 with Dual GPUs or D900F with a Desktop CPU and a single GTX 285m or 480m (which will set you back something over 2000$).
Any of those Clevos should be great so its all up to your preference. And wallet depth... :)

@ Hellcry: The notebook you suggested looks good! However the price will probably increase if i would buy it at XoticPC since i will probably have to pay the shipping to Belgium...

Prehaps the memory can be upgraded to 4GB it's €58 more so that isn't a very big deal.
I'm still looking around if this system has any severe problems that may cause a drawback though.

And i was wondering if it's possible to replace th non backlit keyboard on the Clevo with a backlit one? Because i must admit that for the short time i owned a G73 i really fell in love with that feature.

There are many Clevo resellers in the US.
    XoticPC, GentechPC, PowerNotebooks....
    Just google it :).

Its the first time ive seen someone selling it with mob 5870 CF, but considering i managed to stick a mob 5870 in my D900F where it wasnt officially supported i guess it could be possible, though what ive seen until now was only a single or SLI 285m or a single 480m. You should ask the reseller if it isnt a mistake by any chance.

try ordering from deviltech(hellfire) or cybersystems(Qi18) (both in germany). the base configuration is around 1720 euros (intel 740, xfire, 4gb ram, 250 gb hdd and most importantly- 2 years warranty), add yourself an Intel SSD 80gb for around 160 euros, intel 6300 wifi for 30, another 640gb hdd-5400rpm and you're all set. u can even sell the stock 250gb drive- I would use it for backup.
for some strange reason this configuration is cheaper in EU than in the US...
HellCry, I also would recomend mySN, but their configuration is about 150 euros more expensive,
(they have the best price though for W870CU)

Any of those companies should do fine, but ive had the best expirience with mySN. They really care for their customers. Its just personal preference.

If you are going for that, my suggestion is to go into the Alienware M17x forum. They post information about coupons and discounts to a point where you can get the same as G73 for just a bit more. IMO that's the route I'd go. If you are going to be big and bulky, at least be sexy and receive on-site tech support!
