My G53JW is connected to my receiver through an optical audio cable. I want to get 5.1 surround sound in games. Is it possible and if so, how? GTA IV doesnt give me an option for surround sound. I bought Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect Pack thinking it would work, but it fails at installing. Any help would be nice.

Edit- When trying to install Dolby Digital Live pack, it says it does not detect any supported hardware. What sound card does the G53/G73 have?

You were correct in that you need Dolby Digital Live. Unforuntately if you couldn't get it to work it probably won't. I was considering buying it but you have proven I don't need to. Unfortunately the optical output on my 73JH (which is similar to your 53JW), only outputs DD/DTS bitstreams and PCM stereo. Since games output PCM, all you can get out of the optical is stereo sound. If there was a way to get DD Live to work then we could have 5.1, but as of yet no one has a solution to it. You can always output your audio through HDMI if you have an HDMI receiver and that will work though for 5.1.

If you find a way to get DD Live to work let us know.
