    Morning,

Going to be a little cheeky here so please dont move my post mighty green people. :D

My 5870M "cough" 6990M for some reason will not downclock after having my screen replaced through RMA. It used to sit at 100/150 before I sent it off and when it has been returned it is showing 250/1000 and only when I play a game will it jump back up to 3D Performance clocks. I reflashed the Vbios, tried several drivers and even did a factory reset and nothing.

Now normally this happens when you have an external screen running on it and I am wondering if during the RMA they used an external screen and something is up with the GPU or output that they used as I cannot figure what it is. One thing I have noticed is that by switching off Powerplay my clocks do then drop to 100/150 so that leads to believe it could a driver issue that it is recognising an external screen however the information on screen says otherwise. I tried connecting and disconnecting to an external screen and the clocks just stay put they dont change even when I remove it.

I did ask this in the clevo forum but no one has a clue so I am sure you dont mind me popping over to ask the genius forum ;)

Any help here is appreciated, I seem to remember the same screen change jerk happen on my G73JH which led to me to believe this could be something to do with the clocks switching but software is not my strong point. My only other option is to RMA again which as I only game on it do not see that point I just want my idle temps of 28oC back when it used to sit at 100/150 .9V as it now runs at 1.1V 250/1000 and sit at 55oC :(

Yiddo, I am no genius, If you were on a custom VBIOS is it possible they flashed it back to some other version when it was in for service?
    Green People  :D
    I am not too jealous of the 28 C idle, I am at 45 C 100/150.

It is not a major issue seeing as it boots at lightning speed I only fire it up game and then turn it off :) It is just the principle of the thing along with my OCD hahaha.

I flashed it to hell stock, new clocks and old Vbios and no change.

And they only replace the screen with the 6990M in it ?

Uninstall all the drivers and get the latest ones. That could help. Solved most of my 6970m problems :)

As mentioned fella I have done that several times and even went for a factory reset it did nothing. I am all out of ideas. They only replaced the screen as it had a stuck pixel that was doing.

    Is Overdrive enabled?
I'd seen clock jumps too with switching ON/OFF Overdrive or Powerplay.
You may also delete your profile.XML.
Could also be a registry problem (still entry for old monitor). IDK

I will go an try and delete that profile file but if it was registry surely a factory reset and complete wipe and reinstallation should have corrected it  if not any idea what tweak I should do to the registry? I am bouncing between it being a hardware problem then back to software. Because my clocks do drop to 100/150 when I turn powerplay off again I wonder if it is that.

Because the monitor has been replaced with a different model 95% gamut I suppose this could have been an issue too grrr gonna go have a fiddle and hopefully have some progress. :(

P.s overdrive is currently disabled as I have flashed my clocks back after trying the original Vbios so they are modded. But I have only changed the 3D Performance clocks no other clock setting say it will idle at 250 core and maximum memory. Original Vbios did nothing either. It is like having my old 5870M back all over again haha!

Yeah, I'm wondering about the 1000 mem clock.
Is this 825/1000 set in your current vBios? If not this could be an old value in the profile. Take a look with a editor. You should see some clock/voltage settings. If these not correspond to your vBios try to delete the file or reset the Overdrive settings with CCC to default.

Yeah I have my clocks currently set to 825/1000 so it drops to 250/1000 but even with the original stock Vbios it will just drop to 250/900.

Also yes the voltage is not right either because at 250/1000 it is still at 1.1V wereas it would normally drop to 100/150 .9V. The overdrive thing you said did nothing.

Here is my stock Vbios take a look it all seems correct...

I looked at your VBIOS in RBE 1.27 - power play state structure - 3- unknown is that right ??
When i click on that line clock info 00 flashed red and at the same time clock info 04 flashed green
When I look at the VBIOS on my G73 - power play state structure - power saving for notebook in battery mode
When I click that line clock info 03 flashes green

DH48 I do not see any of the 7 clock settings with 250/1000 I am looking at the VBIOS yiddo linked above

Correct there is no setting for 250/ whatever this only happens when you plug an external monitor in or did before I sent it off I remember it switching to 250/1000 but would go back to normal after you pull the plug.

It seems to be stuck like it now :(

Why would they change any software for a screen replacement? It's a plug & play installation. It makes you wonder what they do with your data!

See this is another thing I whipped the SSD out before I sent it in so they must have had to use an external screen and or their own equipment to test it :( I think I probably caused the problem hahaha.
