    Hey guys,

Does anyone know when an Asus model will launch with the AMD 6970m or Nvidia 485m? Or is Asus just waiting to put the 560m on the G73/53 refresh?

Anyone got any news or other information to share regarding better graphics in Asus laptops?

    Thanks for any input =]

    Never.

Those cost nearly the price of an Asus laptop alone. Asus will use whatever is within the limits of their 150 watt PSU and within $1,500 USD price range. The GTX 485M is a $1,000 card...

    Well shoot.

Maybe they can upp the PSU and charge more ? They do have the lambo series which is expensive.

Think about it this way. ASUS is trying to cover the market share of the mid-high cost consumers. ($1000-$2000 range). If they released something with 485M or 6970M, they're competing with Alienware, doesn't help their market share at all. To any company, quantity is what gives them profit.

Anyone know when the nvidia 560m is launching in the g seris?

560m should be in the G74 which is supposed to be released sometime in Q3/Q4 of this year.

You could try to fit a 6970M in an Asus G73...
Didn't someone take an MSI 5870M and got it to work in a G73? And someone got a 6970M to work in their MSI notebook (I forgot if it was a GT660 or a GX680), though he had to undervolt it to keep the temps down. A good number of vendors are selling the card too for a bit under $600.

The fan control etc are all in the bios, not the vbios. So unless Asus provides an updated bios supporting it, it's pointless.

Unless you want to listen to the fan at 100% constantly. Have you heard how loud the fan gets at 100%? If you don't, turn up the heat in your room and run OCCT at highest possible. See if you enjoy listening to that.

Also most of the sites that sell MXM cards, do not do refunds... so you better be darn sure it will work 100%

Ahh, it has that same problem eh? Nevermind then, unless someone can do a BIOS mod for the G73 to fix that.

Or just run several instances of OCCT.

Also, you could do install a rheostat and manually tweak the fan speeds ... a little dial installed behind the screen ...

1000?!?!?!! That's a good reason to dump the 485M but the 6970M??? It's not a expensive card and alienware users rejoice when they receive the 230w psu. The psu explanation is not as good as the price reason to keep us far from the newest AMD/ATI gpu.

The PSU isn't a good reason at all... My 6970m runs perfectly in my M15x with the standar 150W PSU and a 920xm. So far I only run into power issues when I overclocked the GPU and really pushed the CPU and did some benching...

The GTX 485M costs $750, not $1k. But that's still too rich for Asus' blood.

The 6970M costs $520, so only about $175 more than the Mobility 5870. I don't see why Asus couldn't offer it in one of there $1700 A1 or A2 models.

The GTX 560M is nothing to look forward to, as it's just the GTX 460M on a more efficient core, with slightly higher clocks.

I like the idea :p. Anyways, i doubt we'll see any of those cards but the 6970 could be a possibility while i don't think we'll see the 485m ever in an asus G series. I'm pretty sure you could fit a 6970m in a JH but again: fan at full speed is likely unless you can somehow trick the bios into thinking it's an Asus 5870.
