Have you check that the fan for the Gpu is maxing out with hwinfo64 or other tool . (if you use it ignore 30% ,just look at RPM)

Almost no one can run his 920xm at x24 on 4 cores with a sustained load like that of TS Bench.

Mine can do 26/25/19/19 at 85W/75A stable on IntelBurnTest (90C max temp), but for normal use I leave it at 25/25/24/24 (rarely continuously fully loaded like in a benchmark, so max temp stays under 85C) and have had no stability issues.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend benching on 24x for long, although I did run IBT at that speed and mine didn't go above 96C during the first 3 rounds (before it reported the instability). It depends on your paste application, ambient temp, and of course the chip itself. :p

Currently running 75/67, x19 on 8 threads, temps are ~ 87C, so i could probably push it at x20 or x21 at 85/75.

x20 seems to highest i can go at uni, but the ambients are a bit high.

I mean on 4 cores, haven't tested my max OC on one or two cores so i meant x24/x23/x21/x21, 1core/2cores/3cores/4cores so yeah, all 4 cores running at x21, i only OC for when i run CFD simulations really.

I run mine 24/24/24/24, 85W/75A. Mine idles around 43-45C. Under load it sometimes hits 80C. Mine is extremely stable. I have yet to have any issue related to running it with these settings. I've run SuperPi 32M several times, no errors, I've tried prime95, intelburn test, OCCT, but the temps spike way to high for my liking, so I usually stop in about 5-10 minutes in.

I game everyday on this laptop. I've ripped DVD's for my iPhone. Converted many videos, and ripped lots of songs from my ancient CD collection. Not once have I had an issue.

Idle at 55C to me does seem a bit high, but it just might be the chip you got. Mine may just happen to run cooler.

24x or 3.2ghz on 4 cores is fine even under quite heavy load but not under a Prime or Stress test. Similiar to Furmark the test is to be used to push the hardware to its utmost limit.

Running a 3DMark test is a better way of estimating what max load on the CPU will hit because it will push it hard enough but not make its eyeballs pop out.

Even so rarely will the XM have any trouble running on any game at x24 if you are worried run Battlefield 3 for a good 30 minutes with HWINFO sensors in the background and see what it hits.

If you need more than 80watts to power your settings then you must be prepared for the heat that will be produced. The G73JH is a 55Watt TDP laptop.

The best way to be safe is to just set an Alarm in throttlestop to give yourself 5oC clearance from TJMAX then just play with it all you like.

I feel so stupid now, I'd been running 26/25/24/24 and wprime got me at 92 celsius, and i thought that was hot (i had idles of around 55-60) so i repasted, and now my temps are much higher.

Repaste again. Every repaste differs sometimes you can do it exactly the same way each time and get different results every single time.

Try another TIM if not. I have recently switched to Noctua NT-H1 and it performs very well the best I have seen.

If it only runs at 92oC at full pelt you do not need to worry.

I run mine at 27/26/25/24 at 93W. Mine will quickly overheat in Prime95. I have mine set to automatically downclock to 20x multipliers if it gets above 91C (only happens during encoding video or stress testing my cpu). As long as during regular use it doesn't get too warm you are fine. The reason we set the clock so high is so if the game or program uses huge amounts of cpu for short duration's we don't get lag spikes. Those overclocks are not designed for continuous use.
