Hi all,
I just installed a 920xm QS into my G73JH, all went fine and working well. Used the following settings for a moderate overclock.. not wanting to push it to the max.
TDP 78W
TDC 49A
Ratios: 28,28,23,19
Have set up in the Bios to avoid having to use throttlestop all the time. Idle temps are mid 40's C and under wPrime or a CPU intensive game it max's out at 82C.
Just had a few questions I haven't found answers from in the forums:
1) When on battery I would like the CPU to be less extreme. Is it possible to load throttlestop and have that over-ride the Bios settings to downclock it to lower values? What would be good ones to use?
2) I have set the TDP at 78w. Under full load it hits about 79w. Should I up the TDP in the Bios to, say, 85w? Haven't seen any throttling when using wprime.
3) In the Bios there is the Asus easy overclock option. Does this make any difference if it is on or off once you have enabled extreme options in CPU options?
Apologies if these have been answered elsewhere, but couldn't find them so hoped a throttlestop expert might be able to quickly help out.

I prefer using TS, that way when i start my G73, i'm at the default 55W/47A values and can overclock on an as needed basis. Now to answer your questions.
1: As far as I know, the bios settings are the max multiplier values and on battery you will use the values set in your power plan. Yes, you could force the multipliers using throttlestop, however, just set the maximum processor state while on battery to something lower and you'll be fine.
2: Check if under prime95 you stay at the mutlipliers you set or if you hit throttling due to TDP. If your multipliers stay at the values you set them, then upping the TDP will not change anything, however, if you experience throttling due to the TDP you set not being high enough for the multipliers you set, you see an increase in temperature if you up the TDP value.
3: Don't use the OC option in the bios, it's the same thing as the "twin turbo". It will raise the BCLK and according to my own testing and that of other 920xm users, upping the multipliers results in less heat than increasing the BCLK at the same overall clock speed. -
Agree with Tijo TS is a fantastic program and allows you just to change the profile to suit your needs and you can easily set it up to switch automatically.
The BIOS never worked properly for me even though it allowed you to adjust the XM. -

The Bios seems to work properly (once as worked out the 0.125 TDP/TDC values as Tijo mentioned) and with the cooling on the g73JH it doesn't get very hot even when overclocked. I enjoy the extra snappiness in general usage, should give me an extra year at least before I upgrade.
