Hello all
Just upgraded my G73jw to a 940xm and install went smooth.
I used IC7 compound and the processor is idling at 55-60oC right now sitting on my lap
-No overclock
I put it through a 3dmarkVantage and pulled 14,800 cpu score (stock) but temps reached 82oC and just would like a comparison to thoughts about the temps? Seems to be running much warmer than the 740q did and just looking for an opinion
I tried overclocking and got it up to 98* using throttlestop 24/21/20/20 and 70w/50A and reached 16,3000 cpu through vantage
-Any overclocking pointers? less W/A and increase the multipliers? having a hard time trying to figure things out without overheating this thing, really dont't want to cause any damage and just trying to be safe
Otherwise all is great and this computer is quite a pain to tear open. But I did remove the tape from back of touchpad and it is 100% perfect now. before it was very rarely glitchy but it is so much smoother now and responsive. Very nice

That is a bit hot to be honest I was able to hit 19k pts in Vantage on 28/27/26/26 at 98/75 and it did not pass 95oC.
In regards to your higher temps you are running a 55watt TDP 10 watts higher than your 740QM so at stock it will run hotter. Because of the G73 cooling you will be limited to how high you can run it however compound application is very important. You want the compound to be as thin as possible but applied so that it allows contact with the entire DIE focusing on the 4 cores which are located at the centre of the DIE. Also make sure you have good underside clearance and clean fans + the latest BIOS.
In my repaste and dissassembly guide I have shown a picture of the amount of ICD I used on my 920XM and got some excellent results. (sig)
Here is my http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/605765-g73-53-jh-jw-overclocking-guide.html post although sadly the movies no longer work -
Thank you for reply
I did use your guide and biotech guide for tearing apart. I think I put on the proper amount but did not put the heat sink on square or maybe wriggled it around before tightening. I felt like it kept moving while trying to tighten.
I will repaste and try again -
Its tricky and sometimes if you dont feel like it has gone correctly repaste again right there and then before reassembling it is surprising the difference you can get by proper contact to the heatsink with these models my overall temps from stock paste to my 11th attempt on the GPU I dropped an overall 23oC from stock so it is worth testing and trialing with it.
Make sure it is in pristine condition but with these babies they will run hot so if you have high ambient temps you may not be able to push it too high. Even at stock these things are outstanding so having it run 4 cores at 18/20 multipliers is more than enough.
940xm owners chime in? G73jw
