I recently purchased a G73, was getting vertical line crashes, tried updating vBIOS and such but it kept happening, so I swapped it out at Best Buy for another G73. Same exact model number. It's an G73JH - RBBX05.
So I ask, do all G73's hate 10.6 Catalysts, or was I just unlucky? Also, what is a way that I can definitely check what drivers are installed on the laptop at the moment?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same model and it has BIOS 209 and cata 10.6. I never had those *SODs. Try to set everything to stock drivers...

See last two links in my sig for some info and tips, esp the last one.

Mine seems to hate 10.6 as well. Stock is fine but with 10.6 it's GSOD all the way.
-
make sure u have the latest 10.6 drivers. There were two after all....
-
I got them from the AMD website.
I tried running 10.6 on stock 206 then 209 bios, with and without Power4Gear installed, with both stock and Ziddys vbios and with different clock speeds under AMD GPU clock tool. No luck. 10.6 ALWAYS leads to instability. I guess I'll just wait for 10.7 -
so u downloaded it after june 16th? I got caught off guard by that.
if so... I dunno man. I oc mine to 705/1100 and go no issues. this is with bios 206. -
Yup. I'm just going to blame cat 10.6 because it works wonderfully otherwise.

What is the version of the latest? I can't recall when I downloaded mine.
I have 8.741.0.0
70.8 megs in size
Newest or old?
Actually just ignore this, just downloaded again. Was being stingey as near my download limit for the month! -

guess it just doesn't like you too much.

There's obviously some kind of problem with the G73, whether or not it's hardware or a driver problem is beyond me. Only stock and the 10.1 from Asus' website work for me and I'm not the only one with this problem.

I can't really give u anymore advice that I've read about.
I can only repeat things, try to reinstall 10.6 again. try oc to 705/1100, try updating bios (which I haven't)..... creative?
good luck. -
Have you given any thought about the order you install the drivers and applications? I didn't get success until I uninstalled everything related to power management and ATI drivers, swept and cleaned, then put them back in the order listed in my thread below.
Just a thought.
