Thanks for the link
-
Downloaded and installed over 11.9, working good so far.
-
I've read that the AMD site is having a case of the Mondays as they say, and so is having a problem with servers dishing out the write driver and so it was causing people to have problems.
AMD Catalyst 11.10 final out
My question is what version do you install on the G73 the mobile version or the full driver version? -
The mobility version is meant for laptops. The other one for desktops.
-
i understand the difference just was asking, can you run the none mobility version with the g73's. I've seen many people saying they use that driver at the steam forums and here too. just sorta was wondering.
-
Well if you could then we wouldn't need a mobility version. When you run the installer it'll either stop immediately or when you get to the point where it detects your cards, it will probably stop there. If you do manage to install it then nothing will work right or there will be some sort of problem.
Basically no. -
Runs perfect so far, not see any further gains in Battlefield compaired to the Preview Driver 2 however.
Cannot complaint about performance at release, once DICE get the first patch out I will purchase the multiplayer -
Thats what I was sorta thinking, but yet i am not 100% sure.
Bodycount69 talks about a Performance driver here on this site.
Maybe I'll just ask him... -
-
hi Dallers, so your saying the AMD Catalyst™ - Rage Performance Driver was written for all ATI cards but the basic drivers are writen for types of cards. much like they have drivers for windows xp and a set for windows 7. I was just getting confused by the Performance driver's and was some how thinking you guys are installing none mobile drivers on a notebook. didn't make sense to me.
Thanks for taking the time to explain that, Dallers and KuroLionheart. -
If you have a look at that performance driver it specifies that it is only for:
Compatible with AMD Radeon™ HD 6000, AMD Radeon HD 5000 and AMD Radeon HD 4000 series of graphics products
It is not a full driver as it effects no other cards it most likely adjusts certain settings specified for the 4-6 series when processing OPENGL. ( at a guess ) -
can i start playing Battlefield 3 and Rage with these drivers or there are better ones ?
-
Battlefield 3 runs no different to the Preview Driver 2 either for me but I am not complaining I am still very pleased with my performance practically maxed at 900p!
The G73JH - providing customers with problems and persistent performance since January 2010 -
Great treat for the night
can i just simply install it over my preview 3 driver or do i need to uninstall the old one with driver sweeper first?
-
-
Thanks man
will try later tonight
-
I feel I must ask seeing as it was my advice that led you to go for that one in the end, I expect it is like butter considering it is the power of 2 5870M's and then some extra thrown in on top -
Dallers you have the best answers always
i will install these drivers tomorrow and try one of the games (it's too late)
good night -
Had a few hiccup when first installing it but got most of it sorted out now
. I also pushed the card a bit to 800/1050 to get a bit more juice out of it and the performance i got is more than enough
.
If you're interested you can also read a bit about it here in my thread

Graphics are disaster with 11.10 drivers in Rage but althought very big gain in frames
looks like i will need that performance driver for Rage -
It's a simple and easy solution, you just drop the atioglxx.dll into the Rage folder from eiher Preview 2 or 3 drivers...
This has been posted dozens of times along on NBR, and more on Guru3D and probably on many many other forums. -
-
Best deal for Rage it seems would be using the 11.9 WHQL and then just dropping the Preview 2 atioglxx.dll into the rage folder.
Hopefully the next Preview drivers from AMD will have everything in order so don't have to mess with .dll files etc. -
was it hard for you to say change the opengl driver from the performance drivers?
i see milions of threads opening about flashing the video bios and there are always nice friednly people who repeat the same procedure thousand times without a problem and you are talking to me about one game
if you are an administrator i can understand all this
and btw aren't the preview3 drivers the same like whql 10.10 ? so if i drop the atioglxx.dll probably it won't work -
. Anyways, let us know how skyrim runs on your G73, i might have data on that too, but first i have to decide if i get the game for PC or PS3 (achievement/trophy addict here)
In any case, i can now confirm that my 11.10 install over 11.9 has been flawless in all the games i play. According to DEagleson, 11.10 is WHQL is different from the preview in the regards that it has much better openGL performance. -
Go with PC. Yes I know Skyrim is essentially a DX9 game and it doesn't have impressive textures like bump mapping, PoM and other things you expect to be standard in a PC game now (these are evident even in UE3...). Creation engine for graphic tech is sadly very disappointing. But even so, it will probably still look better on PC and possibly easier to play. I think a mouse works a lot easier with RPG games, just sifting through inventory, quests, dialogue etc quickly. -
Inventory management is indeed easier with a mouse (Mass Effect on 360 ugh!) however, i do have oblivion on 360 and PC and i found the game quite enjoyable with a controller aside from said inventory management issues, it is rare that this issue arise for me. Usually it's pretty clear cut which control scheme and platform will suit me best for a game.
-
I'm definitely getting Skyrim for PC because then I can customize my game to my heart's content just like I did with Fallout3/NV.
-
Tijo I am in shock that you are considering Skyrim on the 360!!!
I love my 360 for football games and the like but Battlefield 3 and Skyrim have to be done on the JH, not to mention the 64 player BF3 battles compaired to the abysmal 24 players on the xbox. Also from the pictures that Skyrim is going to be a console port for the texture I am scared the same thing will happen with Oblivion that every couple of minutes your horse stops and ''Loading'' comes up on screen and ruins the atmosphere. -
Haha, i'd never consider BF3 on 360, and i'm considering Skyrim on PS3, i have the older 360 with a small 60GB HDD and an optical drive that sounds like a jet engine so i can't install every game and have to cope with the noisy ODD. My PS3 on the other hand (fat model 500GB) is way more silent and has more storage space
. I'm still torn on skyrim, i'm not much of a modder and enjoying the game in the comfort of my couch with a nice cup of tea is attractive
. I used to be a hardcore pc gamer, but consoles corrupted me i guess. Anyone taking a look at my steam games library can't deny i'm still much of a pc gamer though. Ah well, i have about a week of playing uncharted 3 to figure that out. On top of that, i have to decide whether i'm getting skyrim's collector edition or the regular...
If i do get Skyrim on PC, my G73 is going to feel lonely though, i'll play on my desktop: i7-2600K + GTX570, the temps put my G73 to shame: 60C max GPU and 50C CPU. -
Skyrim is a definite PC buy for me but I'm a cheap SOB so I'm waiting for the GOTY version. Delicious Steam sales...
-
can i get a little help here
now matter what i have tried i still have the corrupted textures in Rage
tried expanding the atioglxx.dl_ file from version 2 and 3 and putting it in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" but the picture is still freaked out
p.s haven't restarted yet after putting the file -
_
You can extract it yourself, just start to run the installer and wait for it to extract then cancel the installation.
1) Go into the directory, for win 7 64-bit, the default is:
C:\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_11.10_Win7_Vista\Pack ages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF\B126530\
2) Then copy the atioglxx.dl_ file to a temp directory, say c:\Temp
3) Open your command prompt (Run > CMD), go to the temp directory and type:
expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll
4) Copy the extracted file to your rage directory. -
where exactly in the Rage folder
i 've made a search for the atioglxx.dll file and there was only one in syswow64 folder
in the Rage folder there is no such file -
@Tijo if the modding is anything to go by what Oblivion had the PC is a must have, I understand your woes with the old xbox I recently upgraded mine and its the best extra £40 upgrade you can get not only is the new xbox tiny in comparison its silent and its look proper smart. They also built a fan into the brick so it runs cool and uses far less power as well.
Not to mention the most important thing of all its touch sensitive I mean seriously who cares about it being a games console when it opens and closes and turns on like a Bang & Olufsen sound system -
pfff the solution was to enable Catalyst A.I
stupid game ... and still the texture kinda pops out but it is playable
even with the preview 2 opengl it still shows me version 6.14.10.11161 which is on the official 11.10 -
RAGE should have been released in 2010.
Just seen a clip of the new Assassin Creed gameplay, seriously developers get with the times! We dont want or need OpenGL anymore its as useless as PhysX. -
Still waiting on BF3... damn holidays -
MW3 graphics do not look anywhere near as good as BF3 but I think they will still smash it because of the story, I found I was sitting around watching movies far too often in BF3 I would say 40% of the single player is sitting around watching. Sad as well because the flying mission still wow's me each time I play it -
@Dallers
Furmark uses OpenGL.
Actually, according to this article, both APIs should be done away with.
Farewell to DirectX? | bit-tech.net -
True, the storyline wasent that good, but honestly, idk. If the graphics are still the same as a game thats been released 2 years ago, than I don't get pulled into the game as much anyway.
Everything is permitted, nothing is true. -
The full path for rage, by default is C:\program files(x86)\steam\SteamApps\common\rage
You could do a search for rage, and it would help to turn on Show hidden files. anyway if it's a 32bit os just look in the none 86 folder version. why Microsoft had to create two sets of folders is beyond me.
so basically what i am getting at, is you can take any version of ati's GL driver and place it in the rage game folder it's self and the game will use that version regardless of what driver you've got installed on your system as long as it's with in that class. Meaning, 11.10/11.8/11,7 and so on. will not work for 10,8 or what ever version came with your notebook as it didn't with mine.
You don't need to mess with the windows system folders version unless you want to over ride the full GL subset. that isn't really a good idea and could cause you many problems. just install what ever driver works best with your system and follow my direction extracting the Rage Performance Driver that seems to make this game work for some people if it doesn't work for you, Ohh well.
there are three of them to play around with and can be found at ati's site.
This seems to be the best solution so far then you get the best of both worlds.
I hope Skyrim isn't like this, I am really looking forward to that game, I got a 20 dollar off card when I got rage, so I hope it works well on my notebook. -
I complain about having to look at the best graphics I have ever seen and then once everything is dead I will complain that I killed everyone -
i wasn't aware of that method in the Rage folder and don't know if it really works becouse i tried putting the file there but didn't saw a change
and i didn't installed it through steam
anyway probably my problem was other
i've solved it with enabling catalyst AI
@ Dallers
if you play assasins creed then play all parts becouse they are conected -
I didn't install it through steam ether but steam is part of the install package in north America, not sure about the rest of the world. I am using windows 7 64bit too, same notebook, G73JH A1
I added the part about the none 64bit hiding place just for others who maybe search and find this posting and so it may help them too. -
how to install this i have g73jh bestbuy, ccc 10.8
-
