There isn't really a section for distributors, so I figured I'd post it here since I'm looking into buying an ASUS product from this distributor. If this post is in the wrong section, please move it.

Anyways, I'm looking into the ASUS G75VW-DS72. Unfortunately no major distributor seems to carry this model, and TigerDirect's return policy is really sketchy as they don't take back DOA computers, and I don't want to take the risk of getting a dud or defective PC off the bat.

Pro-star has the model available with many customization options, and has a better return policy from what I've read. Thing is, there's very little information out there about this distributor, and I would like to know if they're any good. So far I've seen large quantities of reviews granting them both very low and very high marks, and I'm unsure as to which side to believe before I make such an expensive purchase.

    Here's the link. http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?m...id=20074752&ramid=80122839&batteryid=10031823

If there are any other distributors out there that have this exact model (G75 with 670m for under $1700), which have better return policies/more reliability let me know. If this company is good then I'd be happy to buy from them.

Hmm thanks. I told my parents about pro-star and they seemed willing to try it, though. If it needs a return then so be it and I'll post my experience, good or bad, regarding the company. PS also gave me the option for higher speed ram and better SSD options.

We'll just have to wait and see. I certainly hope everything goes well.

I hope so, too. I've heard bad things about their in-house brand PC's, but the little info I've found with them and ASUS ones seems very positive.

They called yesterday and said the G75 is backordered, stating it will be available again at the latest in mid-May and will call when they get them in stock. They told me they didn't bill the credit card yet and only will after it's been shipped out.

The fact they didn't bill me yet is saying good things, however their website doesn't state they are backordered. They seem legit so far, and maybe suspicions are only because they might just be a small business. I'll keep this thread updated when I hear more.

As promised, here's the company review.

Alright, so because of ASUS not manufacturing enough of these things (custom G75's) to go around, I finally got the PC today. Now I can go through and analyze the company.

Support was great. They answered the phone quickly and nothing was automated. As soon as they picked up a sales rep was there and available - no waiting, no punching buttons. They were nice but concise. Definitely a small company but with great support. They notified us by phone whenever an update was available in terms of potential arrival dates. The company is definitely mostly Asian, and at times some of the reps were a bit difficult to understand. That being said, they were apologetic and repeated any information you may have missed if you asked for it. This definitely says a lot about its company and its sales reps, so I commend them for a good staff.

The PC itself - awesome. It arrived in immaculate condition. If you gave someone the laptop, you wouldn't even notice it was tested in their own lab because everything was in pristine condition - no scratches, fingerprints, signs of tampering - nothing. The only trace they left was the original sticker sealing the box flap closed cut open. Otherwise, great job. I took a look inside, and everything is done flawlessly. Clearly professional even with the custom thermal component.

Shipping was good and arrived on-time. They gave a shipping date and nailed it perfectly, and billed us just as the PC left their shop, no sooner.

Overall, excellent company to buy from albeit the delays, which weren't even their fault. As far as an ASUS PC distributor goes (I have no idea how they handle their own brand or other brands they carry), I'd definitely recommend their service to anyone. Their site has its share of typos, and when things are out of stock it doesn't say so (it states that items are in stock or just states nothing), however I think the quality customer support and overall condition of the PC I received vastly outweighs the insignificant flaws.
