    Hi all,

I have a G50VT-X6 that's a bit over a year old now. Lately the fan has been getting loud while gaming, and at idle the GPU hovers in the mid-70s. Is this likely due to just dust in the fan, or are there other reasons?

If due to dust, what do you think is the easiest way to clean out the fan?
I tend to use an air-can to blow through the keyboards and the vents on the outside of the laptop, but have never done a formal open up and clean out of the laptop. Is it time to crack this bad boy open and dust it out?

Yes, your idle temperatures are way too high. You should really clean out the dust inside regularly, which is something that I should have done. But now, my gpu just fried a week ago from some overheating issues and it sounds like you may have a similar problem.

What are your temperatures like during gaming?

Also, this thread may be of some relevance.

I was getting GPU temperatures of 105 °C while playing Mass Effect, and the fan was running really loud. So I took the back panel off yesterday, and to my surprise there was only a light coating of dust on the fan blades and side vents.

But I cleaned it anyway, and I also replaced the thermal pads on the CPU and GPU with a silver-based goop, and I have reduced temperatures by about 20 °C! Mass Effect only peaks at about 86 °C now, even after playing it for over an hour. What's more, the fan is MUCH quieter, even though Riva Tuner indicates it is still running at 100%.

Which is kind of weird. I should have done the dust removal separately from the silver goop, so I could see how much difference was made by each. But the fan noise improvement indicates that even a light accumulation of dust can really increase noise.
