Old but hey, it still does what I need it to do! I had a external monitor hooked up and was watching a movie while playing a game and all the sudden the laptop screen went out. Backlight still works (white screen), and everything works fine when hooked up to an external monitor. I popped off the hinges and unplugged then replugged in the LVDS cable and unscrewed and rescrewed its ground wire. Still no luck. The ground wire seems to need a pretty good bend in it to rescrew in but everything else looked fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you have reseated the LVDS cable, that would have been my first guess. Maybe there is a problem at the display side of the connection. It's also possible you have a defective LVDS cable or a bent pin on the board where it plugs in. It's hard to tell.

I'm assuming by resetting you just mean unplugging and replugging in? Its nearly impossible to look at the pins as the cable is the "female" end but, due to the fact it just stopped working for no apparent reason I doubt its a pin. In terms of replacing the LVDS cable, its not exactly an easy part to find, and I'm not exactly sure where it leads to. How difficult would it be the replace it? If I replaced the entire top part of the computer would that automatically change the cable? What about just the LCD screen? Obviously if the pin is bent on the board it plugs into these fixes would do nothing just trying to figure out the cheapest way to fix the problem.

PS I also e-mailed you because you seemed to know what you were talking about, you can disregard it :)

A pin on the board side could be bent, or it could be a bad connection at the LCD end, or a faulty cable. Take a magnifying glass and direct light to the board side and make sure there are no bent pins.

If you move the screen back and forth does the image ever come on? What if you move it around while hitting the lid switch (it's a tiny switch near the hinge) or opening/closing the LCD?

No image doing any of the things you suggested (although I only think I know what you meant by the lid switch). I'm search for a magnifying glass to take a look at the pins but upon first inspection they look ok.

It's been a while so I'm not positive. The G50V might not have a switch but a magnet instead for lid detection, but it would be a small little nub at the back side of the top chassis if it did. Near the speakers.
