Hi all,
I purchased a g50vt x5 almost 2 years ago now. Early when I had it I was experiencing nvlddmkm video card crashing issues (right after my warranty expired), which seemingly disappeared for several months.
Recently, however, I've been experiencing problems with it locking up and sound looping mainly during use of games and 3D applications and sometimes on the desktop, requiring a hard reset. Occasionally before the freeze up I will see slight artifacting. Before this problem occured I had a BSOD of an event 41 ID, kernel power issue. I've tried removing the battery and running on my PSU only, and then running on battery only, both of which don't seem to make a difference.
I've ruled out overheating as I've diagnosed it with speedfan and generally crashes with the GPU at a mere 70 degrees celcius.
I've also run memtest86 with several passes and no errors.
I get no freezing if I uninstall my vid drivers and run in standard VGA mode.
So my question is, how difficult and expensive would it be to replace the GPU on it? I've had a lot of experience building and customizing my own desktops, so surely a laptop shouldn't be too much more difficult?
Also I would like some confirmation of my suspicions that it is the GPU that is the problem and not something else related to the laptop.
Thanks.

VGA problem. I've got the same problem with my G50vt. If you find a card on ebay the replacing procedure should be less than 10min.

Thanks for the fast response, browsing for replacement cards now.
