I recently purchased the G51VX laptop for quite a bargain being that it is used... But aside from that I just used Furmark and for all of the tests I did, my GPU temperature reaches over 100 degrees. Now even the less laptop educated person would know this is plain wrong... My CPU cores also reached to 60 degrees. I don't want to play any games yet until I freshen up this laptop and make it 'revitalized' again.

Because it's used, is there a possibility of dust build up inside and I should clean it out?

What can I do to lower my temps? I know you can add thermal paste but it would void the warranty of the laptop; which I still have about 6 months left...

Any advice will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Temps up to 105 Celsius are about the highest you should expect from a 260M, anything past that is too high. If you're running furmark on it you should expect to get these threshold temps, as long as your computer isn't turning off from heat you should be OK.

You can clean the vent and fan out if you take the rear access panel off, it's about 10 screws. How much that helps will obviously depend on how much dust there is.

    Thanks for the reply!

If I planned to overclock the CPU and GPU, would it affect the temperature? How about the battery duration?

If I undervolted, would it affect the temp also saving me battery life?

I've seen the different Core 2 Duo's for this G51VX model and what confuses me is why upgrade the current P7350 when you can overclock it to reach even 2.5GHz? I mean these are pretty decent speeds and accompanied by the GPU's power you have a well rounded gaming laptop. Why spend the $100's of dollars on a new CPU?

Some upgrades I plan on doing soon are replacing the battery to a 9 cell, adding thermal paste (even if it voids the warranty), and overclocking/undervolting.

Upgrading this laptop will be whole new experience for me since it's my first laptop and that I've never opened one before. :p
