The new BIOS update 210 has now bricked out my brand new G53JW. I have flashed BIOS' numerous times in the past on desktops and laptops alike, and know how to do this action correctly. Unfortunately ASUS will not warranty your laptop if your BIOS update fails. I am not sure what lead to the fail as I saw the update proceed through the erasing and programming state all the way to 100% as well as shutting down at the end. Just a warning to all who are thinking about updating their BIOS to the 210 update, or updating BIOS at all, that there is a possibility of BRICKING out your laptop and fixing it on your own dime!

You will be fine, just tell them your laptop won't POST, and set up an RMA. You don't need to mention that a BIOS update bricked it, since a lot of the first-level techs are now spreading this misinformation that the BIOS can void your warranty. Good luck.

The Repair Centers are run by a 3rd party contractor. I mentioned this policy to Gary, and he said he would look into this. It's not correct that flashing the BIOS would void a warranty. You can PM Mason@ASUS on the asusrog.com forum.

Well reason I say it would void your warranty is because I contacted ASUS directly and I mentioned the word BIOS, and his first words were basically "warranty void". I have been using ASUS for a number of years now, and never heard of this, so any other clarification would be great.

    Hello guys,
stay away from the G53jw 210 bios since it will brick your pc. Just bricked mine.
Power won't turn on anymore, it's just dead.
I live in Italy and RMAing it to ASUS tech, hope I don't have to pay for repair.
Anyone know if there is a way to restore 209 without having to send it to ASUS?

You must have been doing something wrong, since there are others who have had no problems updating to bios 210. Myself have done it, without a sweat.

I think that the thing that bricked it was updating the BIOS with my portable USB 3 drive inserted, bacuse also my portable Iomega drive is bricked.

Sounds like your Iomega drive was defective or something wrong with it then. I can't fathom how updating a bios on a laptop could possibly ruin your usb drive.

Bios update is about USB 3.0 , so my guess is when update the bios it might overloaded(Voltage).

I can't believe you update the bios using usb 3.0 since change log clearly mentioned it.

It bricked my machine as well. I sent it to RMA, went back after a month with the back lights of my keyboard not working. Should I send it again? -.-

Try to remove your KB and see your data cables connected correctly. Reinstall drivers (ATK/KB Filter)

Do they flash on during POST?

If so, then try using FN+F4, and failing that, update the latest ATK Package (1.0.0008)

If they do not, there's a KB Lights Fix in the sticky. Follow the simple directions using a bootable USB stick.

They don't turn on during POST. Since that Fix is tested for G73s, will it work for G53?

I just got my G53JW last week, and the bios is 210 already. But, I face a big problem on my usb3.0 port. My usb3.0 hard drive can't work fine. It just connect/disconnect repeatly. I don't think bios 210 fix the usb3.0 problem, maybe it becomes worth. Everyone should test there usb3.0 port. Can anyone tell me their usb3.0 port works fine with a usb3.0 hard drive?

Mine has bios 209 and I noticed that using the USB3.0 port with some (not all) USB2.0 devices that it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
I won't risk the update to 210 if it doesn't fix it.

No problems here with 210 BIOS and latest USB 3.0 drivers. Maybe driver issue.

Aye, I have the last drivers too and on some USB2.0 Hdd it works oK while with another one it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting it
The one with the problems works ok if I connect it to the normal USB2.0 ports.

USB3 does not work on G53JWA1 purchased 12/10. Installed new drivers and 210 BIOS and still doesn't work. Went to ASUS for support and they said send it in for repair. Same problem as reported as others, connected USB3 drive connects/disconnects repeatedly.
