hey everyone,
i made an account on here several months ago to seek help with my ASUS n61jq and the users were very helpful; i have forgotten my username and password and started anew.
My laptop was recently stolen and i would really like a new one. I've narrowed it down to two: the ASUS G53SW and the ASUS A53SV.
i need help picking which one i want. right now i'm leaning towards the A53, but i like another set of opinions.
is the difference in specs worth the $240?
My old notebook was i7 but i've never used an i5; i know that this 17 is a good one, but will i regret it if i buy the i5? i don't know from experience cause i've never used an i5.
is USB 3.0 THAT big of a deal? why?
gaming isn't my focus, so although i do like them, i don't care that much about the gpu capabilities.
Will the 2-cell difference in battery make much of a difference?
Thanks a ton!

Honestly it depends on what you want to do, as to whether or not that extra 240 and other specs is/are worth it.
If you arent some powerhouse user, as to say a coder/software engineer, run VMs, or multitask like a banshee, then the second gen hyperthreaded i5 will still be more then enough.
USB 3.0 is becoming more of a big deal as time passes, but if you arent planning on getting any super high speed accessories/peripherals then it isnt necessary. I personally havent had any need for USB 3
Well if gaming/gpu-capabilities isnt your focus, then the GT540 in the A53 should be just fine.
Actually, the A53 should get much better battery life then the G53 despite the G53's battery being 2 cells bigger. The A53 has not only optimus to switch between gpu's, but also both gpus take much less power to run then the G53's, not to mention the G53 is powering a quad core, and the A53 only a dual core.
And even so, according to ASUS own spec sheet on their website, the A53 CAN be upgraded to an i7 in the future if you so wanted. -
thanks for the opinion.. i'll definitely take it into consideration.
ASUS G53S or A53S?
