A few months back I bought the G53SW from a well known company, but had a few upgrades added to it to include a Blu-ray drive. The G53 is the 15.6 "stealth fighter" version of the G73. The laptop is a beast and performed flawlessly...for a while.
The 1080p screen developed a "bad pixel line" that stretched from one side to the other. I had to send it to ASUS for a warranty replacement. As soon as I got the laptop back (less than 1 week later) the BD-ROM stopped reading DVD and Blu-ray discs, but it would still read game discs like Crysis 2.
This is supposed to be the Ferrari of laptops with the strong ASUS name, but it has turned out to be a disappointment with the issues I am having with mine. When it works, it works great, when something is wrong, it is a headache.
Sadly the new versions are now out with the GTX 560m (mine has the 460m) for the same price, if not less. Sigh.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've had. The optical drive will be covered under the warranty but since you got it upgraded you'll have to go thru your reseller instead of Asus to get it fixed. Give your reseller a holler and they should be able to fix you up.
The G53SW actually is a better gaming machine then the G53SX (new) model. While the SW uses the older 460M that gpu has a 192bit bus vs the SX 560M using a 128bit bus. Take a look around these forums and you'll see the SW is actually a better performance in gaming. So while your computer has been phased out and replaced, you have the better of the two. -
Im sorry to hear about your troubles, but I would like to say, that the Blu Ray problem is probably not caused by your G53.
Nevertheless Im really happy to hear that the notebook performs great, since Im going to buy it in few days.
If you found any other issues with your Asus, let us now, at least I want to know what I should expect. xD -
I m sorry about it but almost same history I had long time ago with my sony vaio and it was same thing. I did many things like driver reinstall cleaning cd and many others. Actually I got some small improvements but main issue is disk quality which I understood later on. If you are using the original disk it is not easy to face such thing but if you use such writen disk subject issues much possible.
What next, sure you can just replace driver with same one or similar and it can be found on the market if asus does not have any intention in this way. -
***UPDATE***
I have had my laptop issues resolved. It seems it was not the G53 itself, but a Windows 7 Service Pack 1 update over a wireless network that got hung up and did not finish that caused the issue. After I completed the update the problem went away and everything is working fine! -
This laptop has no more issues right ? im planning on buying it..

my laptop didn't support win7 32bit version. i need install win7 32bit

I finally got mine! This laptop is quite a beast, definitely runs quiet even while in intense gaming, my previous laptop would max the fan out and sound like a factory
