I have this red&black line of pixels running down my screen..
Just woke up one day and noticed it!
Any idea how it happened and whether and is it covered under warranty or how much would it cost to get fixed???

Looks like it's a problem with the LCD panel itself, you could check this by hooking up to a TV/external monitor. If it looks fine on the external it's the panel (or inverter, less likely).

If the computer is under warranty you should RMA it to ASUS and get them to fix it. Whether it's the LCD or inverter it'll be covered.

If the computer isn't under warranty you could get a replacement LCD panel for about $150 US off Ebay. Pretty easy to fit if you go slow and follow a good guide.

Bad luck, as I expect your computer is pretty new... or maybe it's good luck now rather than later, as I reckon they design panels to go faulty outside the warranty period!

I've got nothing more to say than SpicySi, but what's with all the threads about this issue, lately? I've never seen anything like this until the past few weeks.

Are all G73s failing, or something?

We've sen this issue creep up on some G53s, s far, i think it may have been 4 cases. That's hardly what i'd call a widespread issue. My money is on a bad batch of panels. In any case, your best option is to RMA, this is definitely a faulty LCD. Oh and for the record, the lcds in the G73/G53 are LED backlit which means that there is no inverter.

Cheers for the inverter info, didn't realise the LED ones don't have them. Means one less thing breaking to worry about which is handy :)

I also have the G53SW.And I faced the exact same problem.

Its a LCD fault. I think you must be having an AUO panel.

I got it changed and got a Matte Samsung Panel.

Thanks for the reply guys! I've already created an rma for it
I can see this line even when the screen is off; so I assume it's the LCD cracked or something. I hope it's covered X_x i have no luck with asus laptops!

Yes, this is definitely something that is covered and not your fault. You aren't the only one who got that problem. Worse comes to pass, pm Chastity.

when i received my laptop from asus after an rma, they usually give me a paper that lists what parts have been changed and part number as well as the serial number. the only way i can think of finding out is looking at the rma online.

This is all the paper says
"Replaced parts: LCD TFT 15.6' FHD LED(A+)"
And as far as RMA status online goes, this laptop's RMA was never viewable online

    Hey essence,
I woke this morning and found the same problem as yours on my laptop, G53SW A1. But unlike yours, I can't see the red lines when I turn off my notebook. It's just the normal black screen when its powered off.
Also, the lines just seem to be increasing and decreasing in size with a mind of their own.! Is the problem same/similar to yours? And this should be covered under my 1 year warranty, right?

Please let me know if this is the same similar problem as yours. I am planning to send my laptop on Tuesday (I have created a RMA). How many days does it normally take for you to get your laptop back.?

That actually sounds like a connection issue and they're really good about their warranty so I wouldn't worry about it. My issues lasted more than 1 year and they did resolve it for me so just give them a call and let the tech know what's wrong with your laptop.

Thanks for the reply! I have got a RMA number for it and I will be sending my laptop this Saturday. Let's see what they do with it!

Any idea how long do they take to send it back to me? Also, what are the chances of them changing my notebook's screen?

I seem to have the 'exact same' problem as yours now! Its been a 4 days, and the re streak doesn't budge.

I actually don't remember in total but they ship 2-day Fedex to and from so it depends how long it takes them to decide what to do with your laptop
If it's the same problem then they will have no choice but to change the screen~ Just hope for a nice screen :D

    Hey,
I got back my laptop, with my screen replaced. They gave me a nice matter finish screen I guess the same as yours! Anyway, everything seemed fine, till I realized they didn't send my battery!

I have called and registered a case with them and they told me that they will get back to me soon. It's been two days and I haven't heard from them. What are the chances of me getting my battery back? Has anyone had the same problem?
