Hey all,
I just received my G53SW in the mail today. I unpacked everything, and wanted to get right to the removal of the bloatware (I already own an ASUS, so I know that's part of the process). Well, I inserted the battery, plugged the power cord in, and turned the computer on - which is all fine and dandy, except for the fact that the screen simply refuses to go on along with the laptop (all signs point to the laptop turning on, at least).
I have removed the battery and the power plugin multiple times, only to retry - but to no avail. And not only that, but the screen has never even shown me a flickering sign of life at any point. I was wondering if this was a problem that has any chance of being fixed, or if it essentially requires an immediate RMA.
Thanks much!

mfalc83 Sounds like a hardware issue, do you have a TV or external monitor you can attach and test? Could be video card, or screen panel issue (may just be a loose cable) Let us know
Thanks to Brett@XoticPC for this idea! -
I plugged the computer into my TV using the HDMI cable - and it worked!
So, in order to get the computer's screen to work on its own - where do I go from here? Should I take apart the notebook and make sure all the wires are properly plugged in? Or, due to my lack of experience, is an RMA still the best overall option?
Thanks a bunch for the assist, JOSEA!
EDIT: Also, would opening up the computer cause a void in the warranty? Because if that's the case, I don't think it's worth to hope for a fix by poking and prodding around. -
Glad to help, I do not believe just opening the case would void the warranty. Just as an aside have you registered for the 1 year accident damage warranty yet? http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ree-1-year-accidental-damage-warranty-32.html
I am not sure if this is still in effect though
If I had an issue like this out of box, I would contact the retailer and ask for a new unit, assuming you would not have to pay shipping.
Or you could check here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Service Center for the nearest service center.

Yeah, I think I'll just try to get the unit replaced. That course of action makes the most sense anyway given the circumstances.
Thanks again, JOSEA - you've been a huge help. -
Your are welcome ,If I can ever be of help feel free to Private message me (you need at least 5 posts to do it though)

If the vid out works, you may just have a loose LVCD cable internally.
-
If you are not confident enough to disassemble your laptop, I'd say RMA is the way to go.

Best recommendation i can give is never buy ASUS again...My G53SW came in with one whole half of the screen busted....as of now I have been on hold without ever talking to a person for about 7 hours total now...everytime I reach a little over two hours I get disconnected....ASUS has the WORST customer service of all time. I have always loved their products but everytime I have to call their costumer service I feel like I am trying to order french fries in China without speaking the language.
*Update* Finally got an answer...told me they cant help me with a damaged screen even though I just got it 10 minutes before I started calling and unless the retailer i bought it from replaces it I will have to pay out of pocket...the retailer is the one who said it sounded like a manufacturer defect and to call ASUS...hooray for ASUS, Techsmart, and getting the good old run around...looks like I may be stuck with a defective piece of garbage instead of the highspeed gaming machine I paid for. -
mine is in RMA right now. was pretty easy, caleld 10-15 min on phone and mailed out same day. I was getting GPU driver fails after having the it for 4 months. It might have been due to the OC and after I turned it off when it was 85* right after gaming.

BTW, was this unit new, used, or refurbished? Also, don't throw away that purchase receipt.
If the unit came with a defective panel, and you are within the retailer's Return policy, and it's new, I don't see why he won't take it back.
