So I tried picking up a used G53 and it came in DOA, I've also noticed the massive number of problems (power pin, lid magnet, keyboard lights etc) so I'm thinking of just picking up a new G55. So my question is this, is the build quality much MUCH better on the G55 or will it be more of the same?

Also, I read the G55 was supposed to get the GTX 670 in April but haven't seen it happen yet, is it still planned?

    Thanks in advance!

With G55 Asus looks like they did not really want to sell too many. That hidden mSATA, half RAM exposed and one HDD is simply a stupid idea for this kind of laptop. Who the heck made that?

I should have my hands on a G55 next week. What "pin" should I search for?
I have no idea how G53 was, but I will tell you how this feels.

My only interest in this laptop was due to the fact that people reported it to run cool and that there seems to be no throttling. If this does not perform as expected, I think we have all these big performance numbers for nothing. What good is a G75 that will clock down quite fast to base speed?

Can you do what people do on the 53 with ThrottleStop or whatever it's called?

Well, Throttle is there for a reson. If you stop it, you might damage the laptop in timp. That is not really an option. I had a laptop running at 100C, I do not want another one. I shall see how the G55 performs. Test and users said not Throttle on this one.

How is yours? Does it Throttle?

From test and benchmarks that I read and watched, they say the gpu temps don't go even above 80c and cpu stats within 70ish celcius even after running demandin games over 30 min and running furmark.

Check out the notebookcheck review of it or the gentechpc/xoticpc video review of it.

I got mine early. I'll do a full review tomorrow I think. Or maybe sooner.

This is the time to ask away stuff.

1h of Prime95 had no Throttle at all. That is something you don't see every day.

Max temp was on cores - 85°C, 87°C, 91°C, 88°C. Laptop was warm. I could not believe it, warm.

Prime95 stresses the quad cpu to its limits right so i think that's why you got those temperatures upwards of 85c. I wonder if you will get the same temperature when playing a demanding game like metro or crysis 2.

Temps might be around 70ish or early 80ish with demanding games.

Can you take idle temps of ur cpu when just browsing and gaming stress (around 20-30min) of the gtx 660m. Thanks

Granted I'm using a desktop for this example but my current setup hits 80*C in Prime/OCCT and when I game I don't break 60*C

    Will do with those temps.

For a stock laptop with poor quality termal paste those numbers are amazing. It's much more better than my Dell N7720 (this will run at 1.2Ghz after that test and about same temps, also the GPU 650 will disable boost and run at 754Mhz).

    Room's temp was 32°C - that's hot.

Also several people complaining of high temps on their g55vw over rog forums.

Serious Matter: G55vw heat COMPARED TO lenovo y580.

It seems that it is a quality control issue where they didn't properly installed the heatsink or the thermal compound or left some kind of debri etc.. which is why buying from xoticpc or gentech is better because they offer customization and even repasting thermal compound for a flat fee of $30 which will guarantee low temps.

Not sure what to say about that y580 since it seems quite unique. That laptop heats up quite a lot compared to G55 I have.

About QC, I still have hope.
