So about a month ago, the hard drive on my Asus G55 failed. The laptop restarted and afterwards the BIOS did not recognize the hard drive at all. I was going to RMA the hard drive but do you think it would be possible for them to poke around my files on the hard drive? I wouldn't want my personal information to be viewed at. Any ideas?![]()

If you have another computer or external enclosure I would put the drive in there just to see if you can access the data.

I did try that, unfortunately, it did not work.

Of course it's POSSIBLE, but it's malpractice to do so. If you're concerned about it, see if you can access the data on it somehow, and then either transfer (not copy) the data over to your backup source, or copy it and then wipe the hard drive. You can attempt to boot from Mini Windows XP or a Linux Live CD to see if you can recover the data.
Generally, there shouldn't be much cause for alarm - especially if you're sending it in for RMA, as the manufacturer has a name to stand behind. It would be a different story if you took it to a run of the mill local repair shop.
