Hello, I was looking around another thread for some help with an issue I'm having, but nobody seemed to have quite my issue. EDIT: Also, I may have the wrong forum entirely or this may need to be moved; I'm new here obviously.
I know my way around my laptop, but I really am no good at diagnosing problems, so here goes the description:
I'm running World of Warcraft, a mildly but not extremely demanding application..
My laptop has been plugged in every time the issue has occurred.
Every so often, (and it's often enough to be very annoying,) I'd say between once every 10 minutes and once every 30 minutes, my laptop shuts itself down and gives no reason for doing so.
It's crashed about 12 times since it started happening.
This issue has not occurred during the first 5 months I've owned the laptop at all; it is a new problem as of yesterday.
It also does not happen when the laptop is running on battery whatsoever.
I tried taking out the battery and running it plugged in. It killed performance and worked for about 2 hours before also shutting down haphazardly.
I really just do not know where to head with this and I'm open to trying anything. I can give more details if necessary.
Any help is extremely appreciated..

hi there..I have a question first..did u leave it idle and checked if it happens?and what's ur BIOS version??and I want u to read the name of the model on both the Battery and the Adaptor..it should say (For G60JX)..PEACE
-
It does not seem to happen unless it's running World of Warcraft. For instance it's been running fine for about an hour and a half on battery saving settings while plugged in.
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 204, 12/25/2009
SMBIOS Version 2.6
I will check the battery and get back to you.
I'm a noob, sorry. lol. You might need to explain some things if you want more info :c
Does Lithium Ion A32-M50 sound right? I don't see G60JX anywhere.
Also on the Adapter G60JX does not appear anywhere...
I don't know if that's what you mean though.. -
I recommend the following since my friend had the same issue plus a cold start
(that is an interval of freezing before powering up after pressing the power button).
1.Update the BIOS to version 208 from asus G60JX page..(u'll notice a drop in temperature as well..but make sure not to do it from windows do it from easy flash in the bios..it's really easy!)
2.Re-Install a newer graphics driver(v265.66 is fast as viper and I'm currently using and overclocked with no issues)and also upgrade ur Power4Gear Hybrid o version 1.4..note that all are available from asus website just write the names in search field.
3.Install something called ATK package also in G60 page..it's really important for the motherboard to regulate the VOLTAGE and POWER consumption..
4.if no response..finally I suggest(as directed by an expert) to open the back side of the laptop after removing the battery and changing the RAMs places with each other(Exchange slots) and ensure secure and firm installment..
5.If that didn't work as well..I have some guy who works in ASUS factory who says if neither the battery and/or the adapter misses the model printing..it's probably a commercial brand not the original factory ones..which can bring lot of issues for such power demanding notebook..
check out these remarks and see how it goes..

Alright, I'm gonna try to do what you suggested, I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help.
Update: http://usa.asus.com/AllProducts.aspx?PG_ID=1quIC6RvvlvcvNbn
The laptop I have, G60JX, appears to have been disowned by Asus or something.. lol. I've looked everywhere, and I can't find a product page for it. If you could hook me up with a link, I'd love it.
Edit: Did some research, and it appears the ASUS G51JX is the same notebook. I'll install the drivers from its page. -
here's the link for the G60JX

don't forget bios update..PEACE -
You rock. Thank you.
EDIT: Done everything, waiting for WoW to be back up so I can see if the problem persists. -
Interesting, I am experiencing a similar problem with my G73JW-3DE, just posted this in the 3DE thread:
I have a very strange issue with my G73 - it suddenly turns off, without any warning or error, as if the power was cut.
So far, this has occured only when playing World of Warcraft, and just once when I was at desktop and hit the overdrive button.
Now, the first reason that comes to mind would be to blame it on a heat issue. BUT, the notebook sat there a whole night with 3DMark 2006 looping test runs as well as several hours with both Prime95 AND Furmark running without any issues and temperatures were well within acceptable ranges all the time, so I do not think it can be blamed on simple overheating.
Still, the issue comes up regularily when playing WoW, which is much less demanding on the hardware. Unfortunately, there is no specific condition when it occurs, it's just random, from 5 minutes into the game to 1+ hours.
I am running at a very slight overclock of 720 mhz gpu and 1300 mhz memory, which is well below the ocs reported by other users.
Perhaps the problem you have is similar to mine - have you tried running stress tests or benchmarks? did you OC the gpu? -
I haven't OC'd anything, it's running at complete stock settings.
I followed omar's advice, and to no avail, the problem persists. Check for me - When you play WoW on battery, does the same thing happen? It does not in my case. -
So strange Guth..well what about other games??
-
I just tested with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and the same thing happened after about 20 minutes.
It must be something graphical right? When I'm surfing the internet, there are no issues. When I'm watching videos, there are no issues.
Yet when something is mildly demanding on the gfx end.. my computer heats up and becomes extremely loud.
I'm sure there's an obvious solution I just don't know what it is..
Help appreciated omar.
EDIT: Also if you want to send me an IM address or something so we can talk back and forth about it, it might be easier. Up to you though. -
i have same problem.
problem is RAM. i test it by removing 1 ram from ram slot, and run dead rising 2, that is fine. no any issues.
so, i guess the problem is from dual channel mode of ram.
i hate it, cuz i just got g60jx approx 7 month, and then the problem is found.
so,i suggest you try to test with 1 ram. -
Good find. Should I replace the RAM or send it back? I'm in the same boat, I got it about 5-6 months ago.
-
at first, i don't know where i can fix this problem.
cuz, it can be the problem from RAM, or RAM slot of mainboard.
but i plan to buy a new ddr3 ram , to test it.
so, if your g60jx is fine when a single ram is setup , i suggest you should focus on Mainboard and RAM.
