I recently cleaned my fans of dust, and reapplied thermal paste to the CPU. MY CPU cores run at ~40c idle and around the high 50s when it is under load maxing at 63. The GPU idles at 60 and hovers around 70 under load maxing at 73. I was going to open the GPU and reapply thermal paste, but I saw that pads were on there. But, one pad was very degraded soI threw it out and as a replacement put on thermal paste. So right now one spot on the GPU has thermal paste on it while the other spots have thermal pads. Should I just remove all the pads and apply thermal paste? If you do not really understand what I am talking about the video reference should show you the thermal pads. Also dust canned the nooks and crannies to the fan.

    Moved to asus gaming.

If you can fill the gap enough with paste it may be OK, however you might be better off getting replacement pads. Just watch your temps and that will determine whether you need pads or alternatively copper shims with paste.

Figured I'd just revive this thread rather than make a new one. >.>

But I've gotta ask, what's the MXM slot that the G71 uses? Is it the 3.0b or is it still the 2.1 Type II?

I think G71 is still using MXM 2
