    Help me... please...
    ASUS G-71 laptop. Wonderful, wonderful laptop, but a big problem: I'm getting very bad migraines.

    I bought the laptop because I saw on reviews that you could turn off the lights.
    BUT I've only been able to turn off the back, side and speaker (bottom) LEDS.

    The indicator (the LED buttons above the keyboard) and trackpad LEDS still show.
    If I can't turn them off, I'm going to put duct tape over them. NOOOOO!! Poor laptop!

    Really hope someone can help me out. Happy new year to you :)

    There is no way to disable the indicator lights for HDD/caps/numlock/status/wireless, you can put tape over them I guess.

    There is a way to turn off the trackpad LED in Linux, but I'm not sure about windows. There is a cable for the touchpad LED that you can disconnect from the motherboard.

    In windows the track-pad light can be turned off. The touch button between power and power 4 gear button should turn off the light.
    Note: This will disable the track-pad for use. And as Allurgroceries stated the primary function button lights cannot be disabled.

    Oh nah, those can stay, they don't bother me at all. The ones you are talking about are to the left of the Numpad.
    The ones I need to turn off are above the Numpad.

    Perfect, I'm a Linux user! I didn't mention it because I wanted to hear all answers, regardless of the OS.
    Anyway, do I need to disconnect that cable to turn the LED off, in Linux?

    Yeah, that's fine, I use a USB mouse anyway.

    Thanks for the answers!

    It's via sysfs LED class, to disable the touchpad led (as root):
    Code:
    echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/asus::touchpad/brightness
    It may have moved in a newer kernel, it's been a while since I had a system with a touchpad LED. If it's not there just look in /sys/class/leds/

    Yeah, that works :) as a bonus, the trackpad itself isn't disabled.

    I looked around on that "folder", trying to find something for the touch buttons by the power button, but couldn't find anything. Looks like I'll duct tape them ^^;
