    Greetings,

I just received a replacement G71G-Q1 as a replacement for my G2S-A1 (declared defective after 9 RMA's) and for the most part it's working fine (even minus the issues mentioned in the G71 Owners lounge), however, I have two issues pending and I am trying not to have to RMA it back in for them, since I just got it abour 2 weeks ago... and it's a 3 week turn around.

    Issues:

    1. my ROG LCD cover light isn't coming on, all other lights work but the Logo one isn't - they did replace the LCD cover on this one, it was refurbished to new, but they missed this I think - does anyone know IF there is a cord/plug for this in the LCD or is it a issue that needs a new hardware fix (e.g. new LCD cover)... I know there are 4 screws under the four rubber pads but I can't find any information on dissassembly of the LCD and additional tear-down of the screen - you tube has some dissassembly videos on this model but only for the GPU and MB not the LCD housing...would like too get this working.

    2. Over clocking software doesn't give me the turbo and extreme turbo options, very odd...reinstalled the OS to Windows 7 HP, and I put on the software for overclocking, it does show some options for overclocking in the power setups but it doesn't seem to change anything - no change in any overclocking readings...so thinking it's not changing anything... is there a setting in the BIOS? or is there something I need to do to make this work?

    3. I have 2x 7200RPM 260GB HDs they read however as 106GB each, very very odd... they show as 230GB in the Manager and also seems that Vista64 is reading in some of the OS stats and not as Win7, though this could be from the upgrade, perhaps a full reinstall would do it...but not wanting to do that unless manditory.

Ok, hope there are some answers and links, images, info out there...thanks in advance.

    1. This might help, it's basically the same except a bigger bezel: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/383177-how-disconnect-disable-g50v-g50vt-lights.html

    2. Did you uninstall any ASUS software? You probably need directconsole: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G71G

    3. Look at diskmgmt.msc and see how they are partitioned. Anything except your C: drive can be expanded by disk management. If your C: drive needs to be expanded, look at: EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition - CNET Download.com

Hehe, mind blowing 3DMark 06 score of 8400. That's an oldie. I remember my G1-A1, first Asus G Series notebook for me.

Thanks guys, I found through the dissassembly link the full guide then followed that down to the LCD section and that had a image of everything I needed to take it apart... have yet to do the deed but it looks like the single ribbon cable to the ROG Logo is likely not pluged in properly OR it's defective either way I can def make head way to determine which and if needing replacement I can send an image of the part w/o issue.

So that should take care of thee lights issue.

Next I have to sort out the overclocking oddness... that maybe a fresh install or not unsure - and that may also address the HD oddity.

over-all looks like it's working out.

Also I got a new mouse, the G300 - wow does it look like it's ready made for this lappy - same red/black w/ waffle pattern and cutomized lights...and I like the claw size also.

Will post a follow up when I have do the work on this end... love the system so far, runs a very nice solid FPS in EVE Online and WOT for me... I may have to get into gaming serious now.

Was wondering, I have seen the card and the MXM slot, and oddly someone did a change out of this card with a much nicer version, I'm now curious to think there may be a upgrade path... seemed to be no issue with the fitting and the bios did a recognizing of it on that system...Think it was a 460M that someone put in one on youtube... I was thinking maybe the 260M would fit as it's the MXM step up in the G71GX.

Anyway, thanks for the info and will let you know how it goes. :)
