So I'm going to attempt to embed the receiver for the Razer Mamba into my g73...

Why? Because the receiver is huge and if I sit on the couch or take it out, and I want to use it wirelessly, it means I need to drag the receiver around with me as well...

How? Theres room for it where the motherboard is labelled for a TV card addon, just above the second HDD port on the back, the receiver (once the charging alter is disassembled) is actually really thin and flat (and covered in blue LED's that will probably shine out of the vents for the RAM's ventilation) so it should fit okay, I'm just wondering what the best method for this would be...

It's usb, so I'm thinking I will strip down a small USB hub and embed that as well, this way I will still be left with all my external USB ports working, all be it slower, but I dont really care, I have 4 and I dont need highspeed for every USB peripheral) the mouse requires highspeed so I'm thinking I will disconnect 2 of the external ports on the inside and connect them both directly to the hub, then connect the hub to the motherboard pin-outs for 1 of the USB ports, which leaves 1 set of motherboard pin-outs for use by the razer mamba receiver...

Now if I do this with plugs and don't cut any wires, how boned do you reckon my warranty is, considering I would remove this if I ever had to return it.

I got the hub idea from the touch-screen kits that are available for netbooks on ebay, they use a similar setup to gain an internal USB adapter for the touch-screen hardware.

Also, thoughts on a better method?

People familiar with the motherboard, are there any un-used or un-soldered pinouts on the mobo that would provide USB connectivity if they were to be connected?

Get the MX Performance. It really fits in your hand and the receiver is so small you never have to take it out :).
I remember someone doing the same thing with a Clevo though. It can be done, but i dont feel the need to do it so i never really looked into it.

The main attraction of the Mamba is the ~1ms response time. No other wireless mouse on the market sports anything close, making the mamba the only viable wireless gaming mouse for perfectionists.

A replacement mouse would be unnacceptible, and thus I look forward to seeing how this mod turns out.

Forgot to mention the 5600DPI on the mamba, unparalleled in wireless mice.

Be-all-end-all, the mice are made for two different purposes. Would be like using a fork to eat your soup.

I've been toying with the same idea. If you do this, pics + steps taken would be great. As for mamba vs performance mx, I've got both and they both have their pros and cons. Mamba is much lighter, smaller (easier to grasp) and all around more comfortable to use. It's faster response also helps in fps games. The MX has a longer battery life (mamba dies out fast), the darkfield laser can be used on almost any surface (mamba is picky) and the range on it is very good.

I'm using the Razer Orochi on bluetooth and solves many of the problems mentioned on this thread & one of the reasons I didn't go for any other Razer mouses. If I really need the 1ms the wired option is still there and I don't need 1ms for work and any other applications. The only trade off is it's smaller and have lower DPI compared to the Mamba though not but much (1600DPI) ;)

wired mouses is where its at bro.

I presume you'll be gaming with it, that much dpi is situational. There's no realistic function you would ever need 5600dpi for. I can barely handle 3800dpi at 1 movespeed. That being said, I've played 1.6 for a decade.

If you're planning to use it for multiple display, I still believe there's better alternatives out there.

And the Mamba isn't the only 5600 dpi mouse. Logitech's gaming units offer 5700 dpi, and the new G700 wireless is also 5700 dpi.

Sorry guys, I kind of stirred this up and then disappeared...

This turned into a "Which Mouse is Better" argument, which is really disappointing, Partially because I don't really care, I already OWN the Razer Mamba, and IMHO anything else would be a downgrade, it has on the fly adjustment of DPI, wireless and wired connectivity with 1ms polling, keys that can have macro's programmed on to them and saved onto the mouses own on board firmware, and it arrives in the post enshrined in a perspex display case :D

Anyway, enough about Mice, this is not the thread

I'm talking about the pin-outs from the motherboards, not female USB plugs just sitting around inside the case :p

Interesting information about using the PCI-E pinouts, obviously I would need a PCI-e usb expansion card... I didn't think of that... this is something I will need to investigate... currently this is on hold until my USB hub arrives from the ebay's :D

Good to see there is some interest in this though.

I am also planning on wiring up the Mamba's charging altar so that it can still charge it when I'm at my desk :D

Ah, I see what you did there, I'm looking at doing this in a less-warranty voiding fashion, though a admire your bravery and it looks fairly straight forward, it does appear as though this will of course cause problems to your external port that is having it's data hijacked, I would recommend plugging that port from the outside to avoid shorting your USB controller accidentally.

I think if I hijack those PCI-E pins and connect them to a hub, I shouldn't have to use my USB ports at all (except for power of course), though I'm not sure of the performance of the RAZER through a hub... that being said I am only embedding the Razer Mamba Reciever, not two devices like yourself, so I only really need 1 port... do you have a photo that shows the exact pins (top down) I was not aware that you could hook USB devices directly into the PCI-E port without a PCI-E expansion card... This makes this job a LOT easier :D

The other thought I had was to put the reciever behind the screen and hijack the connection that the webcam uses...

How big is the actual transmitter? I wonder if it would fit inside a mini usb key shell. That's what I'm thinking of doing but I'll wait until I see your photos first.

Yeah :). I will post more pics in new thread and try to explain every step making it easier for you other guys. Yes now usb port closer to memory card reader is ocupied but it does nothing for me,as I`m avare of it and its only me that use this pc. So if I plug something other there then we know whos is to blame :). I can post link to high res picture of the pins for you dc84.

And I dont believe you can put reciever behind screen it is litle bit to thick as you have to use both parts and it is around two centimeter thick so.

No it will not fit in usbkey shell it is square around 5 by 5 cm.

And you dont need usb hub if you are going to use only mamba reciever dc84. Just use mini pcie usb data pins and borow dc +5v from some otherplace on board.

The M17x has a spare +5v connector that's not used on the mainboard. Think I could wire a 4 pin connector to the mamba receiver and use that for power?

I was thinking of re-wiring the interface between the top and bottom cards so they could sit flat next to each other, so the height wasn't a major problem, however the less I have to do the better :D

Thats way to go if you are persistent to use display. But I`m still not shure if is going to fitt behind display. I had removed once before rame around display because I had webcam problems and if I remember correctly it is tight in there. Anyhow if there is will then there is a way :)

Display has already been dismissed anyway, it was purely an idea when I was thinking about heating and space to cram a USB hub, but I only need 1 port now so I shall just use the power from one of the USB ports and the data channels from the un-used PCI-E port, just waiting on the pin diagram or closeup photo of the pins so I can learn more about hijacking the PCI-E USB channels :D

I love the look, feel and operation of my Mamba but the battery life is absolutely horrid and there's numerous reports online of quality control issues.

Mine? It can no longer reach a full charge and continually is charging. And the battery drains so fast that it's just easier to use it corded.

I have a product replacement gaurantee at BB and have been meaning to exchange it hoping I get a proper one, but the majority of them seem to suffer from this issue.

Other than the battery, it's a great mouse

BTW if any of you have any problems with your G73 and need to RMA in the future...

Be sure your modifications can be retracted. This most definitely voids your Asus warranty.

Alright, so I know this is 7 months old, but I actually had the same original problem. Initially I just wanted to find another smaller receiver, but was unable to find one. After some searching I found this thread and thought 'hey, that might be a good idea' the only thing is, that i have a HP t2mt, yeh. the hp touchsmart tablet thing. pretty small, seemingly lacking enough room to complete this mod.
After removing the hdd and ram cover i saw the perfect spot for it; it would fit perfectly. I cut some cords, soldered it up and it worked. Perfectly. I should have taken pictures to show, but im not in the mood to take it back apart for the 5th time in 24 hrs.
So for those of you want(ed) to do this, I would say go for it. Give it a try. if you can find space, it will work wonders.
