Awesome! Share please? It would make OCing much easier.

looks like chicken but does it taste like chicken?
i'd like to see a mainboard tab open please along with the rest, might even be a better idea to take a pic of the screen (and laptop)with a camera instead of a screen for added proof -

What base frequncy without turbo, 1.95 GHz? and turbo got you up to 3.242GHz?
-
Yea my base frequency is 1950 mhz, turbo decreases the higher you over clock though so at 2.00 ghz turbo is only 3.2 ghz this is because the chip needs higher voltages to go farther up. At 1850 mhz turbo is around 3.4 ghz, the important thing to remember though is turbo when 4 cpus are used only overclocks the processor an extra 130 mhz so even though the overall turbo is less at higher clocks the processors are still getting the 130 mhz added on to them. So at 1950mhz all 4 processors are running at about 2.1 mhz at there slowest. Using msconfig and dropping it down to two cores avoids the throttling problem all together and I am able to run 2 cores/4 threads at about 3.0 ghz a piece stable without temperatures jumping above 65 during gaming.

i think its time for a tut
-
Is this stable?
Great job if it works, I'll through in a couple of bucks -
I donated the 106 version yesterday...........
-
So anyone try it yet?
Just to see if it works. -
ok i have fsb, i downloaded this...what exact steps do i need to take to apply it?
-
i think its time for a tut

Can someone confirm if this works.
Buying a G73 is riding on it (not for me)

I know how it works.
I just want to see if it works for other G73 owners.
With no takers it has me wondering if it's legit.
Believe me I would love to see it work!
I don't own a G73 so if someone can get it working, great. -
how about the heating problem

i thought frozenX was gonna give it to us for free

I tried it and only got it stable (playing Bad Company 2) at 1.9ghz. I did run 3dmark vantage and got about 1,500 more on the CPU score
I did not however notice improvements in Bad Company 2.
Not big on this tech stuff so I got help, but I have never really had OC help with any games. What should I expect to get from 1.7 to 1.9ghz?
Also, I have overclocked my GPU to 800/1200 and is stable there, but once again got no major improvement in games.
With the CPU at 1.9ghz I hit around 75 degrees celsius after a few hours of gaming. Normally I stay under 70. -
you are fools for falling into this scam...

There is little to no point over clocking a notebook.

In my lifetime of experience it has become clear that what most people really mean when they pronounce to the world that something "can't be done" is that "I can't do it". Once that basic truth is realized, the rest of the world is free to move on through the fictional barriers sought to be imposed by the champions of mediocrity. In the present instance, for you to purport to speak from on high for the rest of us demonstrates (at least to me) a lack of experience and knowledge. While not every laptop is equally responsive to the techniques, I, and many many others, have managed to achieve real life performance increases of ten, fifteen, 30, 70 and on rare occasions, over 100 percent with a variety of laptops from pretty much all the major manufacturers. This is a new laptop, with new components and some time will be required before we can fully explore the possibilities but understand the basic premise that there is only one production line for the processors/gpu's, they are graded and sold to target different markets so as to maximize the overall income generated from the line, and that rarely does this grading rely solely on the inherent stability of the individual component. Furthermore the supporting components are similarly susceptible to "massage".
The bottom line is that it is possible to improve the performance of the laptop.
That you choose not to, is your business. I would disagree, as if you can get more *bang* for your *buck* , increase your skill and knowledge in the process, and thus add that much more enjoyment to this hobby by improving your lappy, well, that works for me.

reason 1: Temps.
Increasing the speed of your components can and does add stress and heat to your notebook. In a desktop this heat is easily dissipated. In a notebook config it can be deadly. MOST of us do not have people willing to replace our rigs when we burn them up [we must do it ourselves] hence the risk is not worth the minimal gain.
reason 2: Minimal real world gains.
[I'm not saying your lying, and I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE. just very IMPROBABLE. put yourself in my shoes for a sec: if YOU were me, would YOU be skeptical?]
If we were discussing desktop overclocking this wouldn't even be a conversation, but the gains for the risks are just nowhere near as measurable on a notebook. Just because one, or two, or 10 people choose to do it and SOME of them succeed, does NOT make it intelligent or practical to the majority.
Take it or leave it. The above is my opinion. I am entitled to mine, just as you are entitled to yours. To those that seek to OC their notebooks, I wish you nothing but success, and hope you find the performance you seek. Seeking to optimize your hardware is admirable, and I respect that.
Just keep in mind, there ARE risks. In *RARE* cases it COULD cost you your entire rig.
But don't expect to suddenly quadruple your framerate or reduce your start times by 90%. You may see a difference in your benchmarks, but real world performance gains are typically not AS noticable. -
Wow, ease up.
First of all, the g73 has stellar cooling. Your reason 1 doesn't hold up, because even at full load, the computer is still waaaaay cooler than many other i7 laptops.
Reason 2: More power? What's wrong with getting a little power boost? 15-20% more power is the $500 CPU upgrade. Why not overclock the CPU and get equivalent processing power to the better chip? I mean, by your reasoning, more power is bad, so we should all stick to using atom processors, because having more power is useless.
As for mediocrity? Well sure, if you don't overclock your notebook, you're part of the median. The average. Whatever. If you want to underclock it or overclock it, you're not. Who cares?
Also... I wouldn't take anything coming from a Macbook Air owner seriously. I mean, who buys an intentionally crippled mac? -
If you don't want to OC your laptop then don't, I can understand, some people are worried about reducing there laptops lifetime by it.
But I like OCing mine and squeezing every ounce of performance I can, I've done it for years and have yet to "fry" my laptop.
Don't through everyone under the bus who likes or wants to do it.
For me anyway it does improve performance in many games.

TBH, it's the application / game that will determine if OC'ing is a benefit. Some games only run on one core, and if it's cpu bottlenecked, then OC the CPU will add benefits. Graphic artists can benefit from increasing the bus speeds / memory clocks if they do that kind of work.
OC the GPU should add FPS or allow for more graphical benefits, such as higher FSAA settings. Your mileage will vary. -

Has anyone been able to run Bad Company on the G73JH with high and decent FPS? I have done the CPU oc and GPU oc and still only manage decent FPS on low-medium settings.
-
-
-
I run the game completely maxed at 1600x900 except only 2x AA and 4x AF and its buttery smooth. -
Even in smoke and explosions? That is why I said DECENT. I can play with 70-90 FPS but then it drops to about 30-40 through smoke and large explosions.
-
can we stay on topic please?
I'm new to setfsb but when I tried the OP's pll file, I couldn't set a stable OC with the FSB higher than 149, so I was wondering how the OP got it to stabilize at 174? I'm sure each laptop is different but this is a pretty big difference. -

Hey thanks FrozenX I will give it a shot tonight!
I tried the manual process of overclocking with the diagnosis tab but it did not work for me for what ever reason. So this PLL should come in very handy.
So about editing with the hex editor, how did you know what values to change the hex too once you found the hex values that change between the various pll's? -
I also tried the manual diagnosis method but it didn't work when I tried changing the 10h value

gave it a shot, not luck for me, much more than 1.7ghz is a lockup to my system. I think its because not just the BLK is moving but also the PCI frequency?
At any rate I still say thanks. -
for me the OC to 1.75ghz is a lot more effective than the twinturbo OC, which sometimes decreases performance in certain benchmarks and raises the temps by a lot.

Should not mater the number or amount of ram. Even if it was triple channel. Chances are one of the sticks taken out was the weakest link and not stable with the overclock.
It could be a deeper answer though, maybe increased power requirements on the chipset when overclocked or something crazy like that makes it so that less ram works better. -
