Just reading about the specs and it says it has 2 stereo speakers and 2 subwoofer speakers.

Have you got the latest audio drivers and THX features working to full efficiency? Or does the BBK7 only have 2 speakers on purpose?

they will allways be haters out there. just like you said"because I want everything to be built into one usable system otherwise I would buy a desktop". that is very true, but i geuss most people need a clue. a gaming laptop should be good all the way around for gaming. if not, why buy one, then just go to a wal-mart and buy a cheap $300 one. just my thinking. and i found out the other day on here that this is a "gimped" g74sx. so i geuss the speakers are to. yes there is a left speaker and a right speaker thats it. they are straight under the screen.

believe me, there is only 2-speakers, i wish it had a subwoofer like the g73jh did.and yes the whole g74sx bbk7 laptop is up to date with "all" the drivers. i geuss thats why they call this bbk7 "gimped". i will say, this g74sx bbk7 is much faster on my cell "hot spot" then the g73jh that i had. the cell i have is the new htc evo 3d.well the good thing about BEST BUY is, the do have a "lemon law". thats why i have this and not the g73jh anymore.

You might still have 4 speakers though they are all quite close together. Lansing are normally pretty nice speakers normally so its a little strange that you are not getting good sound but then again it is a budget setup from Asus.

The subwoofer in the G73 is nothing special to be honest it just adds a little bass but tweaking the settings in the creative config help the most.

that was the good thing about the g73jh you could tweak the settings. the THX tru studio on the bbk7 sucks. you cant play with the "eq" you can just change ( laptop speakers/external speakers/headphones ), and turn up the volume on the "eq" up a little. but u cant change the bands on the "eq", to tweak the sound.

I find the whining about laptop speakers hilarious. Cracks me up every time I read a post whining about it. Even the most expensive 1" speaker in the world is going to suck. Even a 2" or a 3" speaker. Get over it seriously. This is just too funny. Enjoy your whining and waiting for these fabled 1" speakers that sound good. If you think any 1" speaker sounds good, then you seriously need to get your ears checked and since ear damage is permanent, you have my sympathies.

like i said" a gaming laptop should be good all the way around for gaming, ( power/gaming graphics/sound,etc.. ) if not, why buy one". its not the speakers" its the hardware/software for the sound in the g74sx bbk7. and just to let you know, mmmmmmm, the g73jh that i did had sounded great. the g73jh pumped out great sound ask anyone that knows "asus" laptops. the great thing about The G74SX-BBK7 comes with not one, though dual 500GB (7,200rpm) tough drives. One acts as a primary expostulate (C :) were your handling complement is stored on and a other acts as a delegate (D :) expostulate to store any diverse multimedia files or software.

True that :D . I guess I also understand the whining a tiny bit. When a company removes or downgrades something in a new model compared to a previous one, we will always see whiners. But for me personally, I'd still go for a G74's improvements over its speaker shortcomings. Anyway, it's just lack of a good volume. The sound is still nice IMHO. And yes, I love my headphones for gaming. :D

well if people wanted wires all over the place ( headphones, external speakers ,etc ), we all would be still using desktops, most anyways, to play games. look at "x-box",or "playstation", they are all going wireless. most people dont want to lug headphones or external speakers everywere they go.

Hats off to you for not using your power brick. And why not just buy an 11 inch laptop so it'll be less heavier and you can go wireless and dance all over the place. :D

He is being sarcastic because you mentioned not having any wires.

Im with ya Glenn I am a fussy man as well but have to say that the JH you got rid of seems to be winning the battle here as you mention that most of the things about it were better apart from having a few issues not to mention power and performance, price, sound.... the list goes on.

Any chance of returning the G74 and getting back your JH?

i wish, i miss the poor bugger. it did have some good sound, but i just got sick of messing with it. after 4 hard drives and the keybord/ mouse pad messing up i lost my temper with it. o-well, maybe when the g75 comes out it will be a "great one", and i will trade this in. :D

I think we are all waiting for the next model :D Enjoy what you have though no point dwelling on it hopefully future driver releases improve things they normally do and it can take a while before fixes are produced for new models.

Hi! I need some help, which laptop: G73 or G74?
    G73: i7-740QM, 5870 1Gb ddr5, but just HD+
    G74: i7-2630QM, 560M 3GB GDDR5, FHD
For me the FHD is not necessary, im fine with 1600*900. My quistion is, which have better perfomence overall for games?
    thx

You cant really compare because they are a totally difference prices because one is newer with a more recent GEN II CPU. For gaming the G73JH is more than enough and the GPU is on par with the G74 but the CPU is beaten by the 2630QM and you get FHD.

If you are on a budget the G73 will do fine.

Both are fine machines. BIOS 202 for G74SX fixes the quirks with the keyboard. I suppose it depends if you prefer NVIDIA or AMD. You can always upgrade the 740QM to a 920XM later if you want more CPU power.

And has nothing to do with quality and that's what some people actually care about. Don't even use the soundcard used by the laptop, bypass it to an external DAC.

If you don't care about quality fine, but don't pass off judgement for those who do. Good for you, it's far cheaper for you to be oblivious to quality and accept whatever someone feeds you into thinking it's better because it's wireless.

    I'm glad I don't eat that BS.

dude, you have me allllll wrong.i do care about quality. thats my whole point, ddaaaaaaaa! if you pay good money for a good quality gaming laptop you should get quality all the way around not just parts of. and by the way you need to read all what i have been saying before you start talking about someone.

Nope, I'm not a moron. I did not buy a laptop to listen to stupid 1" speakers. I had full intentions on using my headphones and my external speaker setup because on the go, my headphones will ALWAYS sound better than ANY laptop speaker on this planet. And there is absolutely no comparison between a RealTek soundcard and 1" speaker to my external DAC, amp and speaker setup.

I was just blasting out some 100% sound on my G73JH with creative tuned nicely and world of tanks sounded awesome.

I still dont see what the problem is the sound from this laptop is pretty special. Would like to see the G74 in person to compare the difference.
