I bought an Asus G73J June last year, just a few months after I purchased this issued popped up, no big deal. I took it to the Service Center in Toronto (Canada) and they got it fixed for me under warranty in 2 weeks.

Now I'm in Brazil and I got the same issue with my card, the biggest problem is that I now have to fix it on my own since there is no Service Center in Brazil (Asus website shows one that doesn't exist) and the "technicians" that I asked to take a look on my notebook have no clue on what to do.

Basically everything in the computer works fine but the screen, I thought I could get it fixed with the GSOD How to Fix guide posted in this forums but nothing changed. When turned on the computer looks like the picture below (that picture is not mine, it just shows the same computer with the same issue). Any ideas?

Any help would truly be appreciated since right now I have the most expensive bricked computer around.

Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor yet? If you get the same thing, it is likely a bad GPU. If you get a clean image with it then it is likely a bad cable of some kind. Generally, when I see issues such as this it tends to be a card gone bad.

Oh yes I guess I forgot to mention here. It works perfectly fine when connected to a VGA Monitor or even to my TV via HDMI. I can even play games movies and all that. The screen seem to be the only thing "dead".

I had to get my laptop rma'ed 5 times for the same reason before finally getting a replacement refurbished laptop sent out to me. In total, I had my lcd replaced 3 times and mobo/lcd cable/gpu replaced as well. At the end of the day, I'm on a completely different laptop after all those repairs. In summary, replacing the LCD could be a temporary fix but I was never able to narrow down the problem. I wish you the best of luck!

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I'm guessing I'm stuck with a broken laptop since there's no way to send this one to repair down here... If only I knew this before coming down to Brazil I would have sold the damn thing in Canada :\

Your LCD panel's connector is probably having grounding issues. If you take it out and put it back in place and move it around while the laptop's working you will see the screen become normal at certain angles. You will have to duct tape the cable in place at the angle it seems to be working.

If this doesn't help your situation, you might have a bad LCD cable or you have a bad LCD panel. The cable is made from many micro channels of copper connectors so manufacturing defects can happen at such fine constructions, especially if techs handled it rough.

    Your GPU is working fine.

So if the problem is just the cable and I get the cable fixed it will probably work.

But if the problem is the LCD do I need to get it replaced? And if that's the case does it have to be a specific type of LCD or just the same size of LCD?

Same size and pin type, in this case its a 40 pin type connector.
