Hi all, just thought I would start a new thread for my query because these sort of things tend to get 'swallowed' in the behemoth that is the main G73JH thread, never to be seen again.

So basically, the problem I have is with the touchpad buttons. Generally speaking they feel REALLY stiff. There is no 'click', and I need to press pretty much at the left or right edge of the button to activate them successfully. This is a problem particularly when I need to hold down the button - for example scrolling or selecting areas of text, I find that I really need to actively hold down the button, otherwise if I 'relax' that finger / thumb then it deactivates the button. This really presents a problem when trying to 'drag' or select an area, when it is all too easy for the button to deactivate.

This is in comparison to my previous Dell XPS and IBM Thinkpad where much less effort was required to press or hold the touchpad buttons.

In reality, I will either get used to it, or just use the tap motion on the touchpad itself a bit more. A lot of the time I will also be using a mouse too, so that would also negate this issue.

I was really just wondering if it might be a problem with my unit particularly, because it certainly seems strange in comparison to all the trackpads I have used in the past. I am wondering if other people are finding the same thing or are the buttons on my unit faulty?

Also, for those that are replying, do you use 1 or 2 hands on the touchpad when you use it? (i.e. do you 'thumb' the buttons or use fingers on your left hand) I normally use 1 hand and 'thumb' the buttons, however I have less problems if I use my fingers on my left hand to control the buttons.

Is it quite easy to hold down for you as well? I'm kinda wondering if mine has a problem ......

I really don't want to RMA for something like this, especially given the stock troubles at the moment. I wonder if removing the top of the keyboard / trackpad area is hard, and if it would likely provide me with anything useful in assessing mine further.

Mine is also hard to hold down and does not click. This was my only complaint about the keyboard area as I actually like the chiclet keyboard better than my old HP..

I can feel it click when ever I press it and when I first got it it seemed a little stiff, but I tried to press down both buttons at the same time, to kinda stretch/warp the buttons to make them more flexible. after doing that a couple times they are much easier to press.

Although I still would prefer to have 2 separate buttons...

Yeah I see what your saying - I guess over time the buttonsshould become easier to press, because at the moment the whole button setup feels really tight. As I use it more I guess it should loosen up.

Does anyone know if you can remove the top part of the keyboard / wrist rest such that I could examine the touchpad button mechanism underneath?

    Cheers again
