ASUS G73JH - RMA Worthy? Works Fine with 9.12 but GSOD on 10.3 and 10.4

So my G73JH arrived and like many others it suffers from the GSOD on the 10.4 drivers. But it works like a charm on 9.12...

Are there G73JH owners that run 10.4's with no GSOD issues at all?? If so, should I RMA this laptop or hope for a BIOS fix in the future?

I really need the sage wisdom of the regular forum users on this one, as I would miss my laptop while it is gone - but if it means a stable 10.4 then it's worth it, right?

If it doesn't show signs of gsod on stock drivers, that's how they will return it to you.

I had a few GSOD on 10.4 drivers but they only resulted when I OCed too much. At stock clocks and for engine clocks greater than 250 and less than 785, it has been fine.

No, it's not worth RMAing over. I have the same thing with my own G73JH. And I can't for the life of me figure out why people are so worried about it. Has it not occurred to anyone else that the generic drivers that ATI offers are not compatible with our laptops?

If that is the case, then Asus should be on the list for OEM Providers like the others listed.

ASUS doesn't offer generic drivers, Microsoft does. The ATI drivers ASUS does offer, are compatible. It's when people venture outside of the ASUS supplied drivers that some people have experienced issues.

To valkryst, if the 9.12 or 10.1 ASUS drivers don't result in a GSOD, then it is very likely that a RMA won't help.

Well, it really depends what you expect out of your laptop.

I know that if you are a core gamer, than having the ability to update to the latest ATI drivers are essential if you want peak performance for your gaming experience. Sure, games will run with the stock drivers, but certain games that have updates to improve their performance like BFBC2 will not be applicable to you. In addition, there was an earlier post today that stated that his program, Maya, a popular 3D application will not run well on the stock drivers...

Asus may release an update to resolve this issues, but you will have to forego the driver updated benefits till than. However, this is not a guarantee. It's been 4 months since the release, and there has been no word on any kinds of updates or news that Asus is working to resolve it. The beta Bios update currently in the works as reported seems to be addressing other issues at this time.

If the posts about Asus not fixing your laptop if it is able to be problem free with the stock drivers is true, than I will return the laptop right away to the place you purchased it IF you desire to have the latest drivers working, and not wait for Asus to come up with a solution.

    I returned mine.

    I think there's a fix: Set your memory timings to 699 and 999 instead of 700 / 1000.

I believe you can create a short cut with the clock timings you want and then add that to your windows startup, voila done.

There are instructions on how to do a shortcut somewhere on these forums, believe in the fun tricks for G73 thread.
