Last night i was playing world of warcraft nothing extreme. I have had this laptop for 2 weeks. it is the second one. The computer just went dead the blue lights were on but the screen was black. not GSOD but black like the computer was off. I rebooted it. well tried. Blue lights on the buttons no keyboard light up. still screen was black. I tried again this morning and the Asus boot up screen showed up. then it went dead again. any ideas? i am going back to bestbuy today wanting some advice before i go

Sounds like a defective unit. Depending on how long you've had it BB will sometimes just replace them but usually outside the return window they try to repair it first.

211 allows for a faster ramp up of fan speeds. There is no direct way to control the fans on this G73.

BIOS 211 speeds up the fans sooner and is recommended if you are going to flash the new vBIOS and update to the latest ATI/AMD GPU drivers (currently 10.8).

    My std recommendation is:

If you are working fine leave it alone, however others here postulate prophylactic updates as a preventative measure. It is ultimately your decision.

    Cheers,

The Official Line from Asus is: If you are concerned or having trouble with GSOD, use the provided fix, or RMA it to Asus Customer Support.

If you do not update, and you have crashes, you're SOL.
