Hi there, I've had my G73JH for almost a year now, just an hour ago, when I turned on the computer, the ASUS logo shows and then stays that way for a long time before it finally boots to Windows. Any idea what might have caused this? This is the first time this happened. I tried shutting down and turning on again, the same. Removed the battery out then put it back it and its still the same. I also tried re-slotting the HDDs, still the same. Anyone else experience this?

    EDIT: Conclusions:

Tried removing the drives one by one to see which was causing it, and I found it to be the ODD (Optical Disc Drive), I was like OMG my ODD is broken? so afterwards I put it back in and there the pause once again. So I wanted to check if my ODD was broken and when I popped it open, it had a DVD in it which was an OLD DVD I had and was trying to recover files from, and then I thought to myself, this might be the cause, and so it was! OMG the broken DVD was causing my POST time to lag! I lol'd at the fact because it was just my carelessness that brought upon this terror. Thanks for your help guys, +rep to all of ya!

First this to try - enter the BIOS and reset all defaults.
Also are you using Fancy start?

Disconnect any USB-devices (especially USB-HDDs) and try again.

Yep, tried restoring to defaults, and not using Fancy Start. :D

Tried without any USBs, still the same.

That's the point the system drive is being accessed the first time so I would start there.

Check the SMART stats on the system HDD.

If stock Seagate drive, run SeaTools on it.

Tried all Short Tests since the Long Tests would take time, everything passed. :D

I would have said USB too, that would make my G73 hang at boot, but I guess it's not your problem.

Try taking your battery and AC power out, then try booting with AC only.

Bring up the command prompt and type:

    diskpart

    automount enable

    exit

    then reboot

IMHO run Memtest86 and check your memory. Good luck.

Try it without the HDD (take out).
Boot with some DVD or try with other HDD.

You sure have no SDCard in the slot, right?

All is working normal after this long pause?

Gonna try Memtest later, I'll try the HDDs out later as well. Yep there's no SD card and all is working normal after the long pause.
