The newest update version SetFSB support G73JH now today, however I just can't get it works. Anyone else want to try it on and tell me how it works??![]()

Please read the benchmarking thread. Yes it works, I was the one testing it for Abo.
-
is there any guide how to OC the i7 820QM?? thx
-
fugitiv3 there are a lot of threads for SetFSB and overclocking the I7 processor
setfsb supports G73jh few months ago and you need to pay for it
becouse i don't find accurate this implemented search on the forum i just google it ... for example
overlocking I7 notebookreview
and that's it
and last thing you don't need to overlock the CPU
what for? -
@mite_jan so we dont need to OC the CPU? because am a newbie i was thinking why not try to OC the CPU to gain some extra power..! Is the turbo boost good enough? thx!
-
ASUS's Twin Turbo mode (the middle button among the top left three on the keyboard) is terrible and actually reduces performance
Yes you can use SetFSB to OC and supersede either Turbo Boost and Twin Turbo, but honestly its not needed (maybe except for games like SupCom FAlol) you dont have to worry about it
-
you dont even need the turbo boost. Some people will tell you that it actually makes it run worse when gaming but I wouldn't know as I never use the turbo. Without the turbo on I can play COD BO, dead space 2, and fallout new vegas on max detail on everything no prolems, no lag at all.
-
something offtopic
playing deadspace 2 and that game is freaking awesome
very scary
fugitiv3 just overclock the GPU if you need to -
Intels Turbo Boost might as well be a necessity lol it dynamically raises/lowers the multipliers on each core depending on system demand
Asus Twin Turbo is what your referring to and yes its terrible; it raises the fsb of the system, which removes the top multiplier, it doesnt however raise the fsb by enough to compensate for this and is why it yields worse performance
This is how confusion arises...but they indeed have two different names and two different functions (for the most part) -
@mite_jan my graphics are OC everytime manually with AMD gpu clock tool..
@CrappyAlloy where i can see if the asus twin turbo is enabled. My middle button is not working because i dont have any stock apps installed from asus. As i see you have overclocked ur cpu is it with setfsb? is it safe? do i have to pay setfsb to be able to OC? thx!
dead space 2 is AWESOME!! -
Call me crazy, but any extra overclock helps, and no, the overclock does not effect Intel's turbo boost. Every bench i have run on my machine, be it single threading or multi, shows a boost across the board, meaning that the core still boosts when it can, and does so to a higher rate than before.
Yes, i am sure it impacts battery life, and that is something to consider, but i have not found any other side effect. The extra heat is negligible (~1-2C), but the performance worth it. -
just confirmed on my JW that OC'ing the cpu is a pointless endeavor
FPS readings on Dragon Age: Origins : 45 on normal, 41 on TwinTurbo, 38 with SetFSB on 175 -
i just hope that you will be helping with the JH -
-
-
@Chastity on normal you mean the Turbo mode in bios is disabled? Turbo Boost is different from Twin Turbo?? i am confused!
-
You probably won't notice a big difference in gaming... but it will definitely help when you can OC th BCLK to let's say 150-160MHz when you do multithreaded rendering or similar CPU intense tasks.
@fugitiv3: Turbo Boost is the Intel technology which boosts the cores when there's a lot of work to do and if the cpu isn't too hot at this moment (if I remember correctly it must be below 80°C... not sure though)
Here's a pretty nice description: Intel Turbo Boost - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twin turbo is an Asus technology which boosts the CPU a little, I'm not sure but I thought it sets the BCLK to 150MHz... a nice little OC.. please correct me if this isn't correct. -
@svl7 thx for the info but where I can enable/disable ASUS Twin Turbo? and where I can enable/disable INTEL Turrbo Boost?
They told me that ASUS Twin Turbo is the middle button at the left top of the notebook but mine doesnt work because you have to have a specific program for it and i dont.
Is the INTEL Turbo boost the one that is shown in the BIOS as TURBO mode? -
Yes, the Intel Turbo Boost setting is in the BIOS, I highly recommend to activate it (should already be...)
Twin Turbo is the button you mentioned... I guess if it does not work for you you need a driver or maybe the OSD (on screen display or whatever it's called by Asus) doesn't work (it should display something on the screen afaik, also when you change the volume, but I don't have an Asus notebook... so I'm not sure anymore...) -
My Intel Turbo Boost is enable...I have heard that the ASUS Twin Turbo is not good at all as it degrades CPU speed so having it disable i think am safe!! thx once again svl7!!
-
OCing the FSB past a certain level does help, especially with 3 or more threads.
-
Yes, dead space is a nice shooter with some scary parts. Dead space 1 was much scarier... except for the space raptor zombies.
-
How to use Setfsb?? We have to just pull the arrow (setting the fsb) at the of the row and then push the Set Fsb button??
-
In fact, the 203 BIOS for the JW removed the TwinTurbo toggle in BIOS. feh -
- get and activate setFSP (you need to donate a couple of bucks for the dev)
- select the correct clock generator
- press "Get FSB"
- change the FSB (or more precisely BCLK) with the slider or what I would recommend is using the little [<] and [>] buttons just below the yellow square with two numbers in it. (At the very right side from the slider)
-press setFSB
Be careful with this stuff... I highly recommend reading some threads about the experience of other users.
With some chips setFSB is the entrance to the BSOD-heaven... just make sure you increase in small steps and make sure the system runs stable.
Chances are that you find clocks that seem to be stable at first but will crash after a while or when there's more load on the CPU.
Keep and eye on your temps when you have set a decent OC... then you will see whether it will increase the temp oder whether it's negligible.
Ah, and please don't just move the slider to the very right... not a good idea at all. I recommend adjusting the BCLK with small increments, eg 5 or even 3 Mhz.
When you get a BSOD it doesn't necessarily mean you reached the limit and the CPU can't run stable with higher clocks... it's totally possible that a little higher clock works... you have to be patient and try it out yourself, ever processor behaves a little different.
When you want to go back to the old clock you can set it in the program (133.3 is the standard) or when you reboot the system the clocks will be reset too. -
@Chastity so should i disable it?? what you suggest??
svl7@ thx mate for the info! -
You should be able to change it with Throttlestop then... but why should anyone want to disable Intel turbo boost...
Thanks for the info. -
i have put Asus Turbo Mode in bios to Normal (there is no disable option)
i have attached a pic of cpuz-z is everything looking okay?? sry for the newbie questions mates!
Should I disable or enable it?
-
This looks OCed, either due to the Asus twin turbo or setFSB. I can't really advice you about twin turbo as I don't have an Asus system.
But I highly recommend you getting Throttlestop for monitoring your clock speeds, it's the only tool I know which reports the i7 speeds correctly. -
Okay my bad i made a mistake the picture provided above was with the Turbo mode ON soo i can confirm that using the Normal mode has a decrease in the CPU speed... i will leave the turbo mode on! thx svl7 for the info!
-
It is working so fine for me check this out

@onur83 how did you get your Bus Speed 160+ ?? mine is only 140-143 ...
-
@fugitiv3: Have you already activated setFSB?
-
yes my OC is with setfsb, however I almost never use it. And while you dont have to, I did pay for mine.
-
-
Well ya it doesnt disable* turbo boost as we would all be stuck at our OCed amounts (about 2.1ghz for me or nonOCed 1.87ghz); suppose I just meant it messes with turbo boost a little
-
thx for the info @CrappyAlloy but I will need some help with OC because am a newbie in this area!!
-
@fugitiv3
I activated setfsb, paid for. It went max. 166. But actually i don't use it much only for benchmarks)
@CrappyAlloy
How can you go that much?Gpu o/c 870/1150. Mine is max. 775/1100
Which tool do you use?
-
@onur83 really? 166? I am using it now.. if i put over 150 the computer restarts automatically! that means i can only use FBS 150 and below.. ;/ how can i determine how many Ghz my pc is OCed? for example CrappyAlloy said 3.45Ghz how many FBS is that?
-
Ugh lucky I guess? lol Ive seen other g73s with the core in the 900's and the vram in the 1200's, and m17x's overvolted with cores near 1000
AMD GPU Clock Tool
EDIT
For example my OC FSB at 149.3 X 24 ~ 3.6ghz, and thats been verified with CPU-Z
Second Edit lol
Calculated it out for you, your fsb needs to be about 144 which means the slider needs to be at about 155 =/ try jumping to 155-161 and see if it works -
hmmmm okay let me give it a try and i will report back!! thx mate!!

http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html
@fugitive: PM sent... but I forgot some things... The crash can be because the CPU can't handle the speed but also because of the RAM.
I have no idea about the BIOS on your system... but go and check whether you can change the clock mode of the RAM to "unlinked"... this may help in case the RAM is the cause of the shutdown. -
@CrappyAlloy why multiply it by 24? CPU-Z shows at the multiplier field x22 (9-13) sometimes goes to 23....
@svl7 where i can set the RAM to unlinked? -
That's exatly why I tell you to use Throttlestop, lol. The multiplicators of the i7 change very fast all the time... that's how they're designed to work.
The CPU spreads the load across all cores and can take it from one thread to another very quickly... You will never know the actual speed of your CPU when using CPU-Z. The numbers it reports will only confuse you.
Edit: -
I didnt want to recommend throttlestop because from what ive read it only works best with extreme edition CPUs, you have one, we dont lol
We also have several bios options locked, unless of course we have an extreme edition cpu; Im saying this only because ive never seen such an option in my bios
I did try throttlestop for a while but since I cant use it to OC or anything, I just decided to stick with my other monitoring software w/ setfsb
W/e works best for ya I suppose
Edit:
@Fugitive, because im fairly certain thats the highest multiplier for the 8xx series, might be only 23 for you though as my 840 is one speed bin higher. And keeping the computer in High Performance P4G mode will keep the multipliers high, they wont bounce around so much. -
You can also use it to make a logfile of the temps and clock speeds of all threads while gaming or whatever. Good to see what the OC actually does and a perfect way to compare it to the standard clocks. -
hmm I have tried 144mhz fsb and used orthos stress program for the CPU nad my machine crashed once again
i hope i wont burn it!! also am not using P4G i dont have it installed.. should i installed? will it offer me anything? i use windows high performance..
-
imo its not as user friendly lol but ill give it another shot I suppose
Yes a lot of ASUS programs are crap IMHO but P4G I think (and Id bet many others would agree) is actually pretty good, gives you more options then just regular Windows Power Options, including options to force your multipliers to stay at higher-then-average -
okie i will have it in mind!! I have just test FSB 143.3 with Orthos software and after 7-8 minutes of stressing the CPU the system crash AGAIN!!
ouff now am testing it at 142.7FSB
-
Try wPrime and CINEBENCH, IntelBurnTest can make CPU's crash at even stock speeds lol
EDIT: Or...it was my firmware and driver updates that just happended to make my comp crash when running it in maximum stress mode and xtreme burn mode...not sure now =/
