Hello, I've recently discovered a problem when I try to play any game my computer will completely shut off, but when it's not plugged in to the charger it can play just fine and not crash. Does anyone have this problem or have any fix for it?

Does the power brick get very warm when this happens? It should not! it should be barely warm. Do you have a repair shop close by where you could ask them to test your AC power supply or use a similarly rated replacement for testing with your computer?

It can get pretty hot but recently I haven't noticed it being to hot. I tried a different charger and the same thing happened, my brother has the same computer and it's the same problem

Perhaps a power surge damaged both PSU's, or issues with the outlet?? The fact its not* getting hot anymore could be an indicator shouldnt it? When my dog damaged my PSU the same thing started happening with my G73.

I also considered over heating for a moment, but the fact it works on battery (and the ATI doesnt downlock like Nvidias does when on battery), it would therefore be overheating on battery too, but since it isnt, and your symptoms mimic what mine were, I would say something is wrong with the PSU

EDIT: just realized mine initial statement conflicts with JOSEA's lol idk, but mine used to get pretty hot (before being damaged), my Targus one doesnt so much though.

EDIT2: And now with Dallers :D lol (I'm assuming High Performance mode)

My brick is hot to touch and has been since I got it, can get quite crispy. Sounds more like overheating temps in the computer itself.

@OP what are you GPU/CPU temps like under load? Your GPU and CPU will not clock as high when running on battery unless you specifically set this as high performance mode hence why it may only be turning off when the charger is plugged in. Sounds to me like your are hitting the 100oC+ shutdown temps.

I just played a few rounds of CS:S and I was constantly at 79 degrees so I don't think that's the problem, I have a cooler too.

79 degrees for what? Your CPU has 4 separate temps for each core and your GPU also has MEM(IO), Diode, Disp and Shader.

Run HWINFO Sensors to check each section. Stress and check the highest temp section.

All 4 cores were the same temp, when I was in game they were constantly around 79 degrees.

Ok that is fine for the CPU but the GPU??

GPU temp is at 86, that's not while playing a game.

Ummmm just to confirm that is at idle? If so there is your problem that is probably the highest temperature I have seen from a GPU when idling.

Your GPU is causing the shutdown. I would assume while gaming you are pushing 110oC after a while which is the cause.

Firstly it could be a simple blockage although when your temps are that high it might be degraded compound, a bad paste application or unseated heatsink.

Get some compressed air (a can of) and blast the air vents both sides with short sharp burst to dislodge dust, focusing on the vent to the right hand side as if your facing the laptop screen, that is the GPU vent.

IMPORTANT: Check in HWINFO and you should have the CPU and GPU fans showing as running with an RPM figure. Check both are showing or your GPU fan might not be running.

Overheating it is, cleaned your vents recently?

More worrying for me is the earlier mention that a Brick should not get hot at all. Mine runs hot 24/7 haha!

Yep OP could be breaking a new GPU Idle temperature record here. Very impressive. I am putting my money on a busted GPU fan. :)

How much would that be to repair?

Please read what I posted above before replying you need to do several things before thinking about a repair as it could be something simple.

Firstly check your fan is working on HWINFO as above.

If it is then go for the can of compressed air as mentioned and blast the vents to clear out any dust.

Recheck your temps idle and load and post back as you may need to consider a repaste. Depending on if you are under warranty will decide if you RMA it, pay for repair or attempt the fix yourself.

I'm downloading HWINFO right now and I just sprayed my vents, My GPU is running at 60 degrees right now.

My GPU fan is running at 30%

That sounds better already so it could just be a blockage. Run HWINFO sensors and check the fan is working and then check the idles temps across the board.

Then run a game with the sensors still running so that you can see the highest temps.

60 idle is not bad at all. Mine sits between 57-62 idle regularly (but thats on regular 2d clocks, I never bothered fixing my 2d clock speeds). Stock bricks can and will get hot when doing stuff, anything that increases power draw, and even hotter if you've OCed anything. Mine is on the upper half of warm right now and I'm only browsing the web (though it is super hot in my apartment).
