I like certain brands for a reason - driver support, customer support, etc. Intel yes, AMD no for me... this is my first ATI card in a long time after I ditched them for lousy driver support. I hope they have gotten better as they SUCKED about 8 years ago.
If I choose to stay with Xotic, why continue to criticize me/us? Justin has gone out of his way here, as have the other resellers. I'm in no hurry, I'm not an instant gratification junkie, and I don't want to mess with adding Bluray myself. External is NOT an option, BluRay is a requirement, and finding an internal BluRay drive is not the easiest thing right now. Add that to the price, and I may as well wait and get my preorder. Plus I'd like to stay with the little guys... it's along the same lines that I refuse to shop at WalMart. I'd rather pay more to shop at the smaller local places.

Man, it is a tense time on NBR right now. I can't wait until 3 months from now when everyone has their machines and all is quiet. Wait... Actually what will I do to pass time at work when the G73 thread is dead and buried!?

I might be ordering the A1 in a couple of weeks!!!! I am kinda excited! but as for now... I have to wait... :/
-
I dunno!
Just got off the phone, Justin was busy, but the sales lady was fine. She basically said that if I haven't been contacted already, then there's no point in switching.oh well! I can wait.

I ordered on Feb 2nd and can't get anything out of XoticPC on an estimated place in line that I'm at. It's a little annoying, and honestly tempting to just cancel and get an X1 from Newegg. If I were to do that, could I call Asus and buy the 3 year USA warranty from them since Newegg doesn't seem to have that option?
-
-
Also, you can't get an Asus warranty if you order from newegg, but you can buy a 3rd party "squaretrade" warranty that people were talking about yesterday. -
-
You DO get the 1 year Asus warranty from newegg, but you can't extend it through Asus.
If you buy it from a reseller, you get the 2 year Asus A2 warranty (since they don't offer the X1) and also get the option of extending it by 1 year through the reseller. In this scenario, ALL warranty repairs and issues go through the reseller for all 3 years. And yes, that is a plus in my book. -
-
LOL @ being ignored for ordering mine now instead of choosing to wait 2 months to maybe get one from a reseller at a higher price.
Apparently this company "Xotic" or whoever they are is like the unquestionable holy entity here. I never thought I would encounter fanboys of resellers now. I will never understand fanboyism in any shape or form.
It is truly a fascinating aspect of human behavior. Someone should do a study on what causes fanboyism. Maybe in the past people used to belong to loyal tribes and now that tribes do not exist they have a genetic imperative to identify and defend a larger organization which they use to define themselves.
It just seems illogical to me. Sorry some people were offended so deeply, I was merely suggesting to do what is best for yourself vs. what is best for a company that does not return your allegiance. -

I've actually thought there should be research on that too...but this isn't at all an example of that -
Really werry?
I understand where you're coming from, really, I do. If I could get newegg to ship the X-1 to Canada, I may have gone with that. But at the same time, I'm glad I'm sticking with my xotic order. Sure, I won't be getting it until March, but that's not their fault, it's Asus' fault. And I don't see any newegg reps on these forums, or helping the customers to the same extent that the resellers do.
It's almost like buying a car. Would you be willing to pay a little bit more for almost the same car if you knew you'd be getting great customer service and repair/maintenance work you knew would be top notch? I know I'd go with that dealer instead of the one that's just trying to move metal.
And as for Xotic and not canceling that order, they're really busy right now. And they're not a huge company, everyone is really busy, they'll get around to it when they can. They treat their customers exceedingly well.

New review (from romania)
has the battery numbers and crysis games setting fps that some people were asking for

-Blu Ray drive
-apparently good quality backpack
-second hard drive caddy
-extra year of warranty
So to me, those things are definitely worth $200 extra. -
-
-
Chris, didn't feel like digging through all these posts..but did you get your machine yet?
-
Waiting for the A2 really doesn't IMHO. Really though people should do whatever makes them feel good.
I'll be happy to be gaming in a few hours on it. -
-
-
I do have multiple Blu Ray players, which is one of the reasons I need my computer to play Blu Rays too -
-
but oh well!
Those battery numbers look awesome, and not far off of what Asus told us. Should last me long enough if I have to take notes on it in school. -
By the way, for anyone wondering what the holdup is... He said they just got slammed today with a shipment of G73-A2's (already allotted), G51jx, N61's, and N71's. It must be total chaos over there right now. -
Just cancelled my NewEgg order, so there's one more X1 available.
Diffs versus A1:
No return policy.
No Blu-Ray.
No second 500GB HD.
No backpack.
No mouse.
No authorized upgrades.
So after I thought about it:
No sale.
NO reflection, and I mean it, on those who did (and do) find the X1 a compelling value. -
I haven't held it in my hands yet but I've seen just about every picture and video of it and I think it would be fine for a professional environment because its' exterior looks are quite humble as there are very few LEDs, the ROG symbol isn't lit up at all nor is anything on the back of the screen (Asus logo, ROG logo). The LEDs that is does have are pretty standard on any laptop and are not in a "flashy" place.
So again, in my opinion, this is just fine for a professional or any other environment. I think it gives the impression of quality and strength without any fancy, useless lights, designs, etc. -

Anyone notice that Newegg jacked the price up even more? It's now up to $1499....that's $70 more than what it originally was posted at.
-
LOL, someone reported me for bypassing the filter. Passive aggressive because you didn't like what I had to say?
Grow up. -
-
It also means there won't be any more for a while - grats to everyone who got one! -
Given Newegg's buying power, it is more than likely that they have a purchasing contract agreement with ASUS either for A1s, A2s and X1s specifically or even just a general purchasing contract.
ASUS would have informed Newegg that it would unable to perform the contract to supply the A1s, to which Newegg must have said, okay no delaying our shipment of A1s, just convert them to A2s and X1s and we will consider contract performed. Later when supply of BRDs and HDDs even out, provide the A1s as promised.
So perhaps we will see more A1s at Newegg in the future. -

(I saw Pyramids of Mars too.)

I forgot who said earlier that the X-1 didn't have a 2nd HD caddy, actually no one really knows since it seems no one has got it yet (or maybe they have they're just touching it all over) to confirm or deny it. I think werry called new egg and they said it did have a caddy for the 2nd HD, it's just empty (Obviously). It makes more sense for them to just leave a 2nd caddy in there anyways because that way they can just mass produce them faster and I'm sure it only costs them like .25 cents for a caddy, it's just basically stamped sheet metal. and I'm sure who ever makes the caddys can make like 2,000 an hour.
