I would consider it average so far. If things start really popping in the next 1-3 weeks with the next shipment going out, then I will have a different answer for you.

Xfire 5870's
i7 920XM
16GB 2000mhz RAM (do they even have that for laptops?)
BD burner
256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
10 hr battery life
all the diff kinds of ports
and any screen size you want, all of them 1200p and 120hz so you can do that 3D stuff if you want.
and it would never get over 60c, even under full load for several days straight.
all for what, bit over $2000?
LETS DO IT! -

If you use my fund then make sure you name the company "sleey0" or "RMA, Corp"

I don't think we'll get too many customers if we call it RMA lol.
Do we need a slogan? -

So far so good on my end *cross fingers*

As long as we're not giving up on the dream!!! lol -
With all the reported issues we may have to start including build dates as to see if these are isolated to certain runs or not.

I keep mine a few years easily, and many laptops fail within the first 3yrs so I'm always looking for warranty protection when I buy. A gaming gpu in a notebook is a hotplate in a fragile plastic sandwich full of circuit boards. I went into this knowing the fragility and flakiness of these kinds of machines after a bad experience with hp, and following along the W90-vp threads closely for a long time, as well as other readings and experience repairing people's machines. I would not be surprised if mine craps out sometime during my ownership, I almost expect it to. Hopefully that will not be for a long time though.
My hp dv9000 that I paid around $1300 at the time for burned up after 1.5 yrs.. 6months out of hp 1 yr warranty. I was left holding the bag no matter how much I complained. I wasn't about to let that happen again. 2 yr standard is good, but I found a squaretrade coupon online and got a 3yr for $119. I'm not interested in rolling the dice trying to play hot potato every 6 months - hoping to sell my notebook soon enough that it dies in somone else's hands. I wouldn't buy a used one out of warranty either really unless it was dirt cheap, so it could be a good selling point if I ever did sell it in a few years.
BTW another fragile/flaky electronic device early adoption of mine back in the day was a 50" RP 720p panasonic tv with dvi but no hdcp. It was just before hdcp and then hdmi became standard, and in hindsight the black levels were terrible. Anyway I did have a warranty on it and I had to use it 4 times for major repairs - once to replace the entire light engine which was a large part of the cost of the entire set. -

I had $3200 set aside for an amazing laptop, and thought I found the best deal on Earth with the $1600 G73JH. However, perhaps the mose cost-effective and prudent thing to have done was buy a machine like the X8120 where an 18.4" 1080 display is coupled with a MOBO that a use can easily upgrade CPU and dual GPU's. As far as I know, the AW is nearly as easy to upgrade too. But the barebones style of the Sager/Clevo does offer good future-proofness. -
I'd wager you still have skin in the game or at least are hedging your bet. -

No doubt I had high hopes for the G73 (just as with the W90), but now I am liking Quad's thinking, and I'd say waiting for CeBit is a prudent bet.

The build date is in embedded in the Serial Numbers typically the first 3 digits. Now iirc this was the way with past machines, i.e. W90, G51. IIRC the first digit was the model then the next two were the year date, i.e. X94 meant built in April (4) of 2009 (9) not sure how 2010 will show i.e. X04. I could confirm when I get home unless someone has a machine and looks now.
Edit*** Do not give your full serial number, only the first few digits as these are non unique identifiers between machines. -
This system has issues and it is going to be an absolute crap shoot.
Also, relying on your warranty does nothing as Asus has no parts for the G73 ATM and who know when they will.... -

With such a "soft release", I wouldn't be surprised if ASUS was trying to fix a desing flaw in their recreation of the 5870m. I guess all of us who are waiting on the second shipment will know soon enough. -
lock ups? I got a lock up once when I OC'd my GPU to 800/1100 and was playing ME2.
I hope it doesn't occur again. G51J's BSOD problem and G73JH's lock up problems... I love ASUS but I don't know. Gotta make a decision quick. -
I still can't believe people overclock anything, let alone laptops...and that can fry your hardware...

Can you understand why people modify their cars to get extra horse power?

what are you going to do now? -
Everytime I see evensen type "golden sample" I think of "golden showers" for some reason
-
well, i have to wait either way since I'm still saving up my money for it -
Whatever I do, I intend to keep in touch and BS with you guys.

Still lurking in the shadows but you guys have me seriously considering the x8100 now. I've always been a desktop guy but with the birth of my daughter 2 years ago, I've found that I spend literally zero time in our home office playing games but rather messing around on the couch with my work laptop. Out of nowhere, a storm rolls through town, a bolt of ligthning strikes too close to our house and whammo, my entire desktop is fried. I always said that once my desktop outlived it's usefullness that I would go searching for a good laptop to game on and then I stumbled upon the G73. It seemed too good to be true, more cost effective than it's competitors without looking like....well no offense to the AW guys out there, but at the ripe old age of 40, the lights are a wee bit too much for me. And, I'm really not looking to flip laptops every year or spend countless hours tweaking and troubleshooting. Although you wouldn't know it by the hours upon hours I've spent following this and the Owners thread. Thanks to you all for all of the information thus far by the way! Luckily, since I didn't order mine until the end of Jan, I doubt I'll make this next shipment so it will give me some additional time to monitor the situation. Perhaps I should peruse some of the Clevo threads and see what's going on over there? I tend to agree with Chris though, they're pretty fugly in a utilitarian kind of way.
Sorry to ramble but I needed to talk that one out. -

You won't like using the X8100 on the couch, that's for sure -
One of the reasons that excited me about the G73 was that it wasn't bulky and monstrous in a ridiculous way like the Sager/Clevo. Those notebooks are far too big, bulky for me.
G73 looks more bulky than it is in the pictures. When you see it for yourself, you'll be astonished. It was a shocker for me, it's so sleek, and thin at the front and keyboard area. The sloped look actually is nice for using the keyboard. I really enjoy the look and shape of the G73.

but excellent point.
-
And make sure your coffee table isn't from IKEA...
-
Another plus for the G73. The bottom never gets hot, maybe I would describe it as luke warm. I've played NFS Shift and Annon 1404 with it on my lapt in bed. Relaxing, fun time. The X8100 looks nice though, but very bulky. So massive.

You can?!?!
Why didn't anyone ever say this before!! -
Where can I get the laptop? I mean where can I find it in stock because newegg stock now is 0.
-
-
Why? Is he selling his?
-
Sorry to hear yours went underI have an A2 on the way from Xotic and my brother has his coming back from newegg (they replaced it) tomorrow. We are both thinking of selling them on ebay and seeing what Sager has to offer in the next couple months.
