yeah. So it's not bad just in case you want to cancel.

Well in the past 128bit meant anything over say 1440x900 the cards would collapse under pressure but with DDR5 its hard to say honestly since the only card i have seen on the market with DDR5 and 128bit is the Toshiba X500 ... Would have to get some numbers from them to come to any reasonable conclusion and since thats an Nvidia card i still would not base that info as fact...
-
check 160M GTS vs. 9800M GTS
or 250GTS vs. 9800M GT -
Fair enough, I dident know if they pre authorize or not.
-
As far as i know the only thing they do is check to see if the card is good or not
..

Does Asus have the 30 day satisfaction guaranty like Sager?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
when I get a break, i'll poke around different threads to get some info on from the other gddr5 and 128 bit bus cards.
-
Not sure this will help... But here's a GTS 250m GDDR5 getting 10,691 in 3DMark06 (just for kicks fun to watch), NOT 3DMark Vantage (which is only 4,100 for a GTS 250m);

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTS-250M.17669.0.html
I consider this a trusted source, they have listed as being 256.. Just keep your eyes on this link below, any updated information will show up here. 7,000 to 8,000 is a killer 3DMark Vantage score;

In this case i believe it depends on the reseller you purchase from but they do not have the same policy as Sager does... You return that machine and the reseller will be stuck with it because they do not send machines back to Asus AFAIK...
Id say if you were considering one to just get it and if you dont like it then just sell it for what you paid which should be a no brainer since these will be in such short supply initially, so getting your money back will be a piece of cake... -
I just remember xtoicpc saying the sagers had the satisfaction guaranty. See if they can chime in about the Asus.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
All of our ASUS models come with a 15 day satisfaction guarantee. As you stated Sager's come with a 30 Day.
-
Well 15 days is plenty of time to decide if you like something or not
Heck i could figure that out in less then a few hours myself ....
-
Thanks, any new news on the bit-bus...i think that is the question everyone is hanging on.
-
Indeed it definitly looks like they've learned their lessons from current hot g series, it looks a bit like those alienware/jet exhausts.
I still don't get why the screen isnt .... like the other screens. The backside doesn't open but just stays flat (already said this a few posts back but no one replied), is it perhaphs of the heat that could damage the screen like some people had with the dell xps 13? (the heat in the back of those laptops even caused some screens to get different colours, orange tinted or something like that).
Don't really like that new system which the dell bussiness laptops also use, but it sure looks better thanthe previous asus g7* series. -

We are working on a confirmation I just don't think anybody knows at ASUS without question. We will continue to try to get this and the ETA ironed out and let everybody know once we get a update. -
Very good to know. I guess I need to get in line for the pre-order then.
-
Justin,
okay this idea might sound silly now, but you as a retailer might have better contacts with asus then we do. Isn't there anyway you can tell them how much of an improvement it would be if they put an 256 bit card in the new G73?
Because since the ETA is still far away, they can propably still rearange a few things, such as the gpu. If there is already an 256bit version (I am not saying there is..) of the 5870M then it would be awesome to have that one in the G73, instead of the 128 bit..
Don't get me wrong I am not saying you can tell them what to do, but just point it out to them how much the customer is prefering a 256 bit bus over and 128 one.. If it gets an 256 bit bus, I am getting one too, hell yeah!
*I guess I will buy one anyway, but I rather have 256 bit
*

So again for 1600$ you are getting
1920x1080p Full HD LED
2X 500GB 7200RPM hard drivers with Raid Options
Core i7 Quad
8GB DDR3 Ram
ATI 5870 1GB (Fastest Graphic card available)
BluRay player
High Quality 4 Speakers and a Sub
Solid Design and cooling system
included Windows 7 64Bit home premium
Every input/output you need
I'll properly buy one and enjoy it for 6-7 months till nvidia release their cards/Ati refresh their cards and see if the new cards are worth it
Its not like it's going to be hard to sell g73 with its specs and even if i lost 200-300$ its worth it after 6-7 months of usage for updated warranty and newer unused battery when i get a new laptop
I think people who decide to wait for next cards might end up disappointed if the wait ended up being not worth it lol -
I can't view this at work...not sure if it is new news -
http://upcoming.current.com/items/660325_computerbase-first-test-result-of-ati-mobility-hd-5870.htm -
I guarantee that Asus DOES know the answer, but they would be breaking their NDA with Ati until they officially release the card tomorrow at CES.

Better pictures

In the screenshot that we have of 3DMark Vantage results on the G73JH-A1, the CPU score is visible. (But they obviously designed the "yellow star" graphic to hide the GPU score!) Since we have both:
a) the combined CPU/GPU score, and
b) the CPU score,
shouldn't we be able to figure out the GPU score? -
someone with G51/Core i7-GTX260m should do the text
Since both use the same CPU and they claim that it's faster 30% than GTX260m -
I had been assuming that in announcing the Laptop, they would have simultaneously already given all the specs for each of the components - that explains that then.
Still, a one day wait to find out the specifics of the card from the manufacturer doesn't seem that bad now. Guess most of us will finally be able to judge it properly then.
Still, that means little to me if the release date gets pushed back... I for one am happy just as long as it is comparable to the 280m. -
I still have my g51j-a1. It's going back tomorrow. What can I do to get you these results? It is an i7 with 260m.
-
That is really the bottom line to me as well...
-
Time for some pics of the bottom now.
-
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO .... this has me running around the my bro's house saying "MI FEEL GOOD" (excuse the jamaican patios) lol
but yo mi feel good star !!!!!!!
-
No. It's not quite as simple as that. As far as I know, there isn't an algorithm for calculating that.
Does anyone think the G73 reminds them of the Arima W840DI?
Before you go further,
Let me pop your bubble. Score is in Vantage, and its P7260 @ 1366 * 768. -
lolwut!!!! hahaha
-
I don't see it and that's my current system. I see more of the M17x in that system...at least from behind.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
karu
mi see weh yuh a sey.
it looks like the m17x more then the whitebook.
also for 1600 you can get the np9280 with no cpu I believe so I believe for 1600 you should get a 256 bit bus gpu with mobile parts. -
lol... i just did feel like typing it all back out lol...
if its underpowered and doesn't compare to the 280 then it will leave... but even if its just on par with the 280 im happy with that till the next refresh/update...
thats all... didn't mean to come off as a -
Its a big bonus they use those two huge heat exhaust like alienware. I just wonder if its really worth buying the first generation of ati cards which will support direct x11. my card (see specs) was the first generation to play direct x 10, so it claimed...I had to use direct x9 to play Assassins creed1.
-
8600GT is a mid range card
5870 is High end card so its not the same really. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it's worth going from a 8600m gt to a 5870 of course. But is it for a 280m gtx sli going to a single 5870 with the expectation of getting lower performance???
-
Not a chance...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I need the money for I have to downgrade. I want to look at the np9280 now but I will be with a single 280m gtx which isn't bad but I had that already. Idk. I will see what happens with the 'official word' from asus.
-
Unless Alienware (or someone else) introduces an i7 with dual 5870s it's not going to to be worth it for you.
-
Well in that case, I would say yes. If you HAVE to downgrade, I would pick a laptop with a 5870 over a 280. Especially since the rest of the laptop has so many good features, design choices, and a great price.
-
Just thinking myself, I still have the w90vp, have crossfile working now, I just dont see it worth it to me..I dont think there will be any improvement, granted I am not real up on benchmarks and stuff.....could be wrong. Opinions ?
-
I'm in the market and I was about to jump on the G51j but I'm glad I saw this post about the new G73 coming out.
I've never had an ASUS before but a system as powerful as the G73...how reliable do you guys think it will be? Will there be heating issues or other problems? -
I was trying to find out what time Ati's press conference is tomorrow, and came across this link. Read the first and only comment. Made me "lol".
http://www.guru3d.com/news/ati-preps-12-new-graphis-cards-for-ces-2010-launch/ -
I was just thinking, all the press releases say that release date and price are unconfirmed. So is the $1645 that some people have paid to pre order just a guess?
-
Hard to justify it for anyone with a recent system. I have a M17 currently with dual 4850s. I like having the "latest and greatest" but the single GPU (and possibly 128bit) is still holding me back. For gaming I know it's enough but for benchmarking I'm sure the better solutions will be out soon.
-
I believe the resellers have the correct SRP. 1645 is correct.
I found the CES schedule and Amd/Ati has disappeared from the Wed/Thursday schedule. Ugh... They haven't completed the schedule for Friday/Saturday, but I'm guessing that is when Ati will reveal the chip.
On a side note, Nvidia will be presenting tomorrow morning at 10:30.
http://techie-buzz.com/featured/ces-2010-complete-schedule.html -
It's the lights and the rubbery look, I guess. I definitely see the resemblance to the M17X, was wondering if anyone noticed a resemblance between the W840DI as well.
If you currently have the w90vp, I don't see much of a point in switching, unless you really want i7 and a smaller machine. -
I certainly hope so - wouldn't be willing to pay any more than that (on too tight of a budget and that was already stretching it) and with all the unexpected info to come so far, I'm preparing myself for the arrival of more bad news. Hopefully that won't be the case though.
Still, just in case, I've started scoping out the Sager NP8690... It's always good to have a backup plan. -
Does the CPU score in this benchmark result say 8640?
Would 8640 be about right for an i7-720QM?
