Does anyone know of any distributor that is currently offering the X-1 with the i5-540m processor yet?

On the ASUS website it clearly shows where you can get the i5-540m (or the 620m if you want it) instead of the i7-720m quad core. The only restriction is that the i5/i7-620 will be limited to 4GB of RAM.

I am a gamer, but not so much into Crysis, FC or anything like that. I pretty much just play WoW casually, but we want to replace our desktop with a nice laptop that will cover WoW, internet usage, emails, and online TV (wife's shows). It's the space saving convenience and portability that I like.

That being said, I don't really need twin hard drives, 8GB of RAM, blue ray, or mega high pixel aspect ratio of ultimate cornea burning doom. I have seen the X1 configured on the ASUS page with the following options, and this is what I am looking for:

    i5-540m processor
    4GB DDR3 1066
    500GB 7200 RPM HDD
    ATI 5870 GPU - dedicated
    DVD Super-multi drive
    17" display

I suspect Bestbuy will carry something similar to this in the near future. However, are there any retailers that do offer this package?

The desktop I will be replacing is a Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz with 2G of RAM and a NVidia 512 GPU. This desktop has served all of our needs just fine for 2 years, and with everything turned up to MAX, WoW played perfectly in 25 man raids with a FPS of 50+. I imagine this laptop I want, with benchmark scores WAY over the C2D scores, will perform even better.

How bad do the ASUS G73 overheat with "low end" gaming like WoW? Anyone have any experience with a G73 and WoW?

    Thanks!

Its seems its not going to happen. Best Buy already carries the G73, however they are the full fledged non-water downed versions.

If that is the case then that really sucks. The i5-540m is smoking the i7-720m in WoW benchmarks. Don't laugh...we buy rigs based on what we play and enjoy! WoW tends to be more CPU centric vs. GPU so, the higher GHz of the i5 wins here.

    :p

I don't know where you're seeing a G73 in a Best Buy, but they're not here in Iowa or on BestBuy.com, as of right now, at least

It's in another Thread...march 4th starts the midnight stealth bombing.
    It's basicly the X1 model.

Trust me....The G73 will not have WOW problems... :D
Also it will not have heat issues...It does not have heat issues with Crysys turned to high everything either.

I've been reading almost everything G73-related in every thread and haven't seen that particular piece of information, so a link would be appreciated.

Also, mylowrider said "Best Buy already carries the G73...", which isn't correct, is it?

There was a thread. But someone called and a Best Buy rep claimed G73 search pulls up information for a 15.6" laptop. So no confirmation yet.

    A G52 with a dual-core i7 and a Radeon 5850 would make me very happy.
