..:HERE ARE THE THINGS I DID STEP BY STEP PRIOR THE PROBLEM:........
I was playing a game and the graphics weren't as expected so I downloaded the new nvidia driver, the game visuals improved but no audio.... so I decided to upgrade the realtek audio codecs as well and voila! there i had an issue cause the card reader is also realtek so I installed another driver, well I uninstalled and installed the cd one and problem solved, then i INSTALLED THE AUDIO CODEC and there it was, nice and sound game with nice visuals and nice sound. I also decided to clean the registry cause I didn't do it since the purchase in 25th january for that I downloaded uniblue software and it cleaned like 250 problems.
THE PROBLEM:
a friend skyped me tried to put the camera and didn't work, weird stuff I thought, went to the device manager and it was not there REALLY WEIRD STUFF, tried to force windows to detect it and nothing... restarted and the webcam light didn´t turn on in the smart logon windows....
WHAT I DID
went to the asus driver web and downlaoded both the Camera_Chicony_9236_CR_Win7_64_z2103136 and the azerus somthing
tried to install them... and no luck error when i DOUBLED clicked the exe,
tried the same with the driver cd and still no luck
I started to laugh in a nervous way
looked for restore points.... all of them where from the same day
uninstall the audio and graphic drivers
no luck
installed them again
no luck
made a variable in windows so i could see the installed devices but not connected
found it.. uninstall it so windows could catch it and install by windows update

Can you try check device manager in safe mode?
-
When you did the registy cleaning, did you backup the registry before cleaning it? If you have a backup, I would try to restore it (the registry).
I know it has been stated in other threads, that it may take a few tries to install the camera.
Another option would be to backup your system and restore to factory settings assuming you made the recovery DVD's or created an image when the machine was 'new'. -
thanks for the replies, about the registry backup yes I did and I loaded it and still no luck... about the factory disk I thought there was a image already done as dell does... so no, i didn't do the factory disk. I was doing it now and it turned out to be 5 disks, and of top of that when the first one is burned asus gives a verification error every single time its burned... I think formating the C drive is the more deastical way but... im afraid the issue will still be there .
I read lots of threads about the issue but i really don't know what to do I believe windows does not recgnize the camera cause there is no switch to make it recognizable :s!
I just checked the device manager in safe mode... guess ASUS don' like the fact that Dell was my ex girlfriend....
WORST COSTUMER SERVICE EVER!
Estimado cliente,
Gracias por ponerse en contacto con el Servicio de atención al Cliente de ASUS Latino América.
Mi nombre es Agustin y es para mí un placer ayudarlo con su problema o consulta.
In this case you product needs a physical check if you purchased your product outside of Latin America you should validate the support and warranty issues directly with ASUS Support USA or the country where you purchased the product. To contact our ASUS central of USA please use the following link and make your query directly to our support team U.S.
ASUS Service (North America)
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Service Center
http://livesupport.asus.com

I remind you that for this to work you'll have to use USA as your country when filling the online forms and then state your real country in the body of the message or "problem description". If you don't do this the e-mail will get back to us in Latin American Support, since the system automatically discriminates by country of origin. If you do this change you shouldn't have any trouble getting through to Support USA to get a solution to your problem.
You must take under consideration that you may have to pay for shipping and handling costs and even additional repair costs if your warranty has expired or does not apply.
Que tenga un buen día.
So this guy agustin only said to me "hi" in spanish copied an automatic response in english and then said "have a nice day" in spanish...
these guys think that we latin americans are stupid? -
Can you check this:
1: Go to BIOS by hold F2 when first turn on the computer.
2: Go to Security tab.
3: Go to I/O Interface Security at the bottom.
4: Go to USB Interface Security.
5: Check to see if CMOS Camera is on the list.
***Important, don't change or lock any devices*** -
i will check right away!
its not
under the usb interface security there is:
usb interface
external ports
bluetooth
the three of them unlocked -
Looks like your webcam module is defective and needs to be replace.
I asked you to check because one of my customer's Bluetooth (USB) disappeared all the sudden, he checked the Bluetooth cable and it's connected properly, finally we found out it can not be detect in the BIOS anymore and need to replace with a new one.
See your webcame can't be detect anymore is not because it's locked in BIOS, therefore, it's hardware defect:

guys something weird happened i was playing a game when suddenly I heard the new hardware sound... and there windows found the device and installed from windows update, the thing is it is shown in the device managment as disconected and the PID is weird... dunno what to do next

yup still not working its "disconected" so if its not in the bios.. it died? The problem is im from Chile and here there is not an asus technical center :s! and the notebook has less than 3 months of use :s!
-
I realize it may not be what you want to here but the built-in Asus webcam is junk anyway. So if at all possible it would be better to just buy another because a decent external webcam will give you far better image quality. Just make sure there aren't any other problems causing this like a problem with the USB ports.
-
this happens when you cheat in your 6 years old girlfriend(DELL) I just can't believe that it died in less than 3 months
anyways i was reading in the forums (a LOOOOT) and it seems that the cmos camera option in the g73jw does not exist in some models :s
or the user didn´t find the option.... at this point I don't know :s -
Your webcam died. I had exactly same scenario two months after purchase. It will come up couple times more as new hardware and eventualy die completely. Just forget it or buy new one. You can even purchase new from asusparts and exchange it self its easy.

I am very dissapointed with the costumer service... now I know why dell computers are pricely considerating their specs... once, I had a problem I sent them an email and in less than an hour, they called me back home by phone from the US
ASUS G73JW Camera disapeared from device manager
