has their been any real confirmations about the JW? Does anyone know for sure if its getting the GTX 480? is there going to be a choice between 3D and 2D versions? Besides the rumors of the new GPU ,USB 3.0 and Hybrid HD's... is there anything else said to be rumours? Or anything that has been confirmed?
Does anyone have a ETA? I am hopeing before July 1'st before here in Ontario the HST TAX kicks in.......
-
There was a post on the asus facebook page, it looked like there was a choice between 3d and no 3d, but the placard was too blurry to get a good view of the specs.
The link is here, but I'm not sure how FB links will turn out.
Oh. And speaking as someone in ontario that got a g73jh, I wouldn't hold your breath on getting it here before the HST kicks in. Not that it matters, really ...
But the notebook was released at about the same time in the US and Canada. But it took a month or so to get stock to the canadian resellers. If anyone is going to get it quickly, look at extreme-pc.ca, or ncix. -
It's not a rumor.... it's official
USB3 and the H.drives will be there
and the only thing that we don't know is what Nvidia card will replace 5870
GTX480 make sense though -
No no real confirmation yet.
Just a fuzzy picture to confirm it exists.
I will throw it out there. Dashing the hopes of users who refuse to buy a desktop, instead want to buy a notebook oven...
The G53 and the G73jw will be packing the same GPU. Following Asus past trend which they have done many times before.
- Both notebookes will be selling on the 3D Vision gimmick.
I do not think Asus has any intentions of going head to head with Clevo or Alienware. Their biggest notebook sales is through Best Buy and Amazon and Newegg it seems to me. I don't think they will be offering a GTX 480M through these vendors.
If I'm wrong whatever. But if I'm going to speculate, might as well have fun with it. -
The reason im asking if its going to be here before july 1st, is because HST kicks in... I am PST exempt.... and that saves me a BUNDLE of money, well just 8%... but still haha
its such a hard choice, im going to wait till the very last minute..... if the JW isnt here, im going to get the A2 or A1 , which ever is on sale at the time. Seems like they are really phasing them out, alot of canadian stores, keep on putting each model on sale, both A1 and A2,,, it seems they alternate the sale of the model each week. anywhere from 50 dollars off to 250 dollars off. Last week the A1's were 240 dollars off, it was actually cheaper than the A2. But stupid me and waiting for this JW to come out.
Hell I coulda took that 250 dollars off, and bought a nice Vertex 2 SDD
which to me would make a way better performing lappy,, than a GTX480 and those hybrid hdds -
Wait.... G73JW have USB3.0? is this true... maybe I could cancel the g73jh before they ship it. Need quick comformation. 2d version
-
Yes I have read at a few places it will have the USB 3.0,, hurry and cancel if this is important to you. but god knows as of right now how long you will have to wait to get your JW
-

all I have in this world , are my balls and my word, and i dont break them for nobody haha....
im way to lazy, at this time and going to bed, but search the board, some of the other guys have posted up some links already.
I believe its the G73JW priceing thread.... -

ASUS ROG G53 at Computex 2010 - Engadget Galleries
That is USB 3.0 in that picture there, isn't it? If they include it in their new G53, it would make a ton of sense to include it in the semi-revision of it's bigger brother (G73jw). -
While usb 3.0 is in the g53. There no indication that it would be in g73jw. Since g73jh is out months before g53; its questionable if the refresh will be have usb 3. Assumption is not confirmation.
-
for common sense why would they make a g73 refresh without usb 3.0 if its youger brother the g53 is officially usb 3.0

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Considering it takes Fermi SLI to do 3D Vision on a desktop, I am just giddy with anticipation on how they are going to get a single mobile (fermi?) to pull it off.
Can't wait to compare the JH 150W brick to the JW ?W.
If ppl are moaning about the 90Cs for the 5870m, can't wait to see what Asus and the green team come out with.
Q -
I think it will be having a 400 series nvidia card, because it says
'Features new generation graphics card with massive dedicated graphics for extreme performance'
SOunds like a 400 series -
-
So there's no confirmation on G73JW USB 3.0. Only pictures of g53 where we assume it will be the same for G73JW.
Anyway, I wonder if its even worth getting th JW. Would the heat and power consumption justified in the end? -
Im sure it will have USB 3.0 and if i was a person ready to take the plunge on a current G73 i might hold out till pricing/performance/Temps etc are released before making that decision between the current/future model..

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
I guess my real curiosity in the idea that if a single mobile gpu can pull it off (no matter how much you have to trim the settings nads), why do desktop owners have to go SLI for 3D.
Seems like fishy nVidia crap to me. Thankfully, I'm not so interested to jump on board 3D & Fermi yet, but if I tried 3D and fell in love, then found out I needed two 4XXs to pull it off, plunked down the dough for everything I would need to game with this tech and then found out laptop owners can do it with one mobile gpu, my wallet would feel cheated because I should have been able to do it with one full 480.
For what it's worth, I came across this chart for 480m specs.

What happened to good old fasioned 2D screens, as long as it's a good quality screen I have no need for 3D.
I don't really want to wear goofy glasses when gaming, and what of others that already need glasses, you gonna use 2 pairs!
I don't think so. -
You can go to Fry's they have demo stations. They are pretty nauseating, at least I was. Playing FPS in single player campaign like Doom 3 after hour or so always got me almost to vomitting state. This 3D vision does that in 1/4 of the time. It doesn't look right, it doesn't look 3D, so at least my eyes had this odd feeling.
Anyways can check it out for yourself. I also noticed a lot of details decreases with this gimmick.
@IKAS V you are right. I've read some user experiences already online that for those with glasses, this gimmick is pretty much useless and not usable. -
Yeah I'll think I'll pass on the 3D.
You were on the demo machine for an hour..lol -
-
-
Like with some FPS. -
-
If you haven't already read the article by Roger Ebert titled," Why I Hate 3-D (And You Should Too)", it's worth the read. It also explains why 3-D can make some people feel nauseated.
-
Great article!
I agree with every point.Nice find Kalim.
What I don't get is why laptop companies are now pushing this new found tech.
Everyones getting into the act even CLEVO.
If they poll most PC gamers I bet more than 75% are against it.
I just don't get it. -
G73jw shown in this vid at Computex but he doesn't show or say much info. Skip to about 3:16 for the notebooks. I think he does mention that there is 3D and non-3D versions for the G73jw.

As the article points out, James Cameron, who is a "master of cinematography and editing", "spent $250 million getting it right". So, who will follow Cameron's lead and spend the time and money getting the process right? Other than Cameron, nobody.
That's not going to stop manufactures acting like 3-D drug dealers for awhile as they tout how inadequate you must be for having 2-D equipment. They want you hooked so you can re-buy your equipment all over again, so you too can get the Avatar experience on your 15 inch screen.
However, like the gimmicky Creative software (waves hand to Chastity), they wouldn't be doing it at all if they didn't believe there was at least a reasonable percentage of the market that they could manipulate. Maybe to them the 25 percent, who can't see through the thin veil that disguises the kool-aid, is enough to forge the other 75 percent into submission?
Three years from now either we will be complaining how short the battery life is on our 3-D glasses, or we will be laughing how the 3-D hype was nothing more than the same Virtual hype. Then in another 7 years, we'll be doing it all over again. -
Any confirmation release dates yet???? anyone heard of anything yet? haha I hate how companies do this stuff to us... its torture, and frustrating.
-
The G53JQ and G73JW have been confirmed by GenTech to use the GTX460, so there ya go, one confirmation!

not much of a confirmation because we know very little about the gtx 460
-
Hopefully things can clear up soon, since im still in the process of ordering the G73JH, and who knows maybe after i see the true specs of the JW i'll decide buying this one.
