I found out this deal on TigerDirect.com:
    ASUS G73JW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black, 2-Year Warranty, 1-Year Accidental at TigerDirect.com

The only difference I could find between this G73JW-XT1 and the G73JW-A1 is the single 500GB HDD instead of twin 500GB HDD.
Everything else is the same (inc. Full HD display and Asus International 2 Year warranty).

    Pretty good deal!

    Have you noticed other differences?

No backpack or mouse, if you care about that sort of thing. If you want to carry it around, you'll have to look for an alternative solution... there is a lot of info/suggestions on that here, but traditional laptop carrying solutions will likely not work due to the unusual shape/size of the G73.

I bought this same model last Sunday from CompUSA I am returning it tomorrow not because I dislike it because I love it I love it so much I want to upgrade it to the 3d version for about 300 more ya get the extra 500 mb hd (with the caddy) that is the hybrid SSD/HDD A blue ray burner...the 3D screen (120 hz refresh) and the mouse/backpack. After taking out taxes and the extra hybrid HDD I bought this is actually only gonna cost about $100 more then the one I bought.

Justin, WHICH is the best screen that the Asus has then and can you point me to an order page for that unit (G73)?

There might still be hope then 'cause I still have around two weeks to return the HP and I wouldn't mind seeing the HP and Asus side to side or seeing an Asus with a better screen. I really like the Asus as a computer.

    THanks

    George

Alright, I just came back from Best Buy and their Asus has a better screen (LGD01DD) than my Asus (HSD06A5) and the difference is more than noticeable.

My HP dv7t that I bought a few days ago has even better screen (CMO1711) though. Sharper, crisper looking, better saturation and colors.

Based on this, I'm inclined to keep the HP and send back the Asus to Tigerdirect.

@guiri_too: Could you elaborate on what you don't like about the screen? Is it design or manufacturing? etc

Also, does anyone know a supplier in the UK that can supply the 3D screen version? I will be googling, but would like to hear from anyone who has ordered one in the UK.

    thanks!

Colors are off and even after I tried to correct them. NOt as sharp, vivid or saturated as the HP screen.

You put them next to each other and the HP makes it look bad on EVERY setting. Sure, maybe I shouldn't compare but I only started doing so after opening the Asus and NOT liking it..

THe Asus at BB with the LG screen looked better! On that one, I would probably have not reacted about the picture.

    Hope this helps

    George

I have been doing a little research on this too. Seems like the tigerdirect version (G73JW-XT1) has the best offer compared to the newegg (G73JW-XN1), and amazon version (G73JW-XA1). Did you go for the tigerdirect version? Any updates? :)
