    Hello!
My ASUS G73jH just turns itself off when I play any game. I dont think it is because of overheating as even I have had the laptop off for all day then playing the game for 30seconds it crashes. Or the graphic card heat up that quick?

    Any suggestions what to do?

Also, as I paid quite alot for this laptop, I am very unhappy with this as right now I am not in my home country for another couple of months (so if repair is needed I have to wait). Is it possible to return this laptop and buy another one?

You have the JH model :) expect problems but don't be unhappy with it because its a great laptop and worthy of its problems. Have you updated to the latest BIOS and VBIOS? What CCC drivers are you running?

Have you checked the temps on HWINFO32? Its worth checking one game may not cause to overheat but another might. May require a repaste as instant shutdown is normally a safety feature of the chipset reaching max temp. Check the fans are working also and that they are not full of dust.

I have the latest drivers. Just a week ago I could play without any problem at all. But now nothing works. The laptop is not hot when it crashes. But I have noticed now that the fan is quite loud on the right side, it has never been this loud before.

The laptop wont get that hot it is made to prevent heat reaching you and the paste can degrade over time meaning a week ago it might have been ok. The fan on the right hand side IS the GPU fan so it does sound as though your Card is running hot if it is at full load.

Download HWINFO32 and run it while running a graphic intensive game or Furmark and if the MEM(IO) or the SHADER temps goes over 105oC that is why it is happening these normally run hotter than the DISP(IO) and GPU itself. HWINFO also shows you the fan speed its all you need to diagnose if heat is the problem.

Make sure you do have the latest BIOS upto 213 which is the latest but I have 211 and its fine and also more importantly the latest VBIOS that was released to fix the Grey screen of death and crashing/freezing problems along with heat issues.

CCC drivers should be 11.2 or 11.4 beta to be the latest.

If it is heat and none of the above fix the problem you may require a Thermal Compound Repaste. Common requirement of the JH which is worth doing.

Make sure you update to 213 BIOS + latest vBIOS, or else you will always have instability issues.
