Hey, I got this laptop around a year and a half ago and when I first got it it worked perfectly, everything ran smooth and I had no issues at all when installing any form of drivers and software.

But at the end of 2011, I decided my computer was getting clogged with too much software and probably had a virus or two. Rather than manually deleting everything and virus scanning I decided to restore the laptop, bad idea.

The actual restore process works perfectly. The computer eventually starts and I'm able to go onto windows, the problems start when I try to install new video card drivers (AMD 5870 mobility). Almost every time I reformat the laptop (to attempt to fix the issues), in the middle of installing the drivers I get a big fat BSOD. And as soon as I start up the computer again and continue reinstalling things everything slows down. Video games use an unnaturally large portion of my memory, my computer constantly overheats from the smallest of applications, old games that used to run flawlessly now hardly run on lowest video settings. It's getting angering and I currently can't afford an upgrade yet.

Yes I flashed my BIOS, Yes I manually pasted my CPU, yes I opened it up and cleaned every microbe of dust. I'm running out of options.

Can somebody put their input please?

I bought mine used a few days ago, and restored it soon after. I downloaded the desktop 12.6 drivers unknowingly, but they installed and worked fine Only different thing was it showed the 5870m as a M7280 (Something like that..).Then i installed all the Asus drivers. I used drier sweeper and cc cleaner to get rid of the desktop drivers, and installed the mobility drivers perfect. It might work for you, it's worth a shot.

So make sure you update your Bios and vBios before all of this:

I found a few things before while googling, you can try these too:

    asus g73jh 5870m dri - Forums - Battlelog / Battlefield 3

Oh, and apparently AMD drivers won't work with the stock vBios, so you need a modded one. Stock vBios only works with stock asus drivers from what I understand.

    Hi
This might be a case of vBIOS (video card bios) and maybe also borked up video drivers.
What you could try, download the latest 12.8 mobility drivers, start them to actually download the drivers (but don't install them!), then go to Add Remove Programs and completely uninstall all ATI related stuff. After that reboot. Back in Windows, install all missing Windows Updates (don't select the possible offer of display drivers) and restart if asked. After that go into the directory where you downloaded the 12.8 (should be c:\amd\....) and start the Setup. Only install the required components.
    Hope that works.
