Hello, my computer has crashed three times in the past week. I'm not to sure what to classify this under. The recurring theme is that I have a youtube video loaded in a tab, viewing or not viewing, when the computer crashes. I did post anything right away as I wanted to see if I could recreate the crash and recorded the screen with my camera. Last night the computer crashed but this time it crashed 30 seconds AFTER I exited Youtube. So now I am not sure if I want to say it is only Youtube but the time window was so close.
My lappy is a stock build: ASUS G73SW-XT1 ASUS G73SW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black, 2-Year Warranty / 1-Year Accidental Damage at TigerDirect.com

My problem seems to kind of similar to this guy's thread but I'm still unsure: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/664687-g73sw-having-pink-pixel-everywhere-screen.html
I have already ran ChkDsk and everything seems hokey pokey.

As of right now I have two System Restore Points.
1.) 6/1/2012 12:38:09PM Windows Update Critical Update
2.) 5/31/2012 11:22:24AM Automatic Restore Point System
Both of these times have been established before the first crash which happened: 6/1/2012 around 9:00PM-ish (i think, it was at night so yea.)

In the Event Viewer/Custom Views/Administrative Events
I keep getting warnings from the ACPI:

I apologize if you stated earlier, but what kind of crash are you getting?
Is it a hard lock-up? a blue screen?
You could also try uninstalling whatever Flash plugin that you have.
What internet browser do you use? -
I'm sorry. I totally forgot to mention my browser. I'm using FireFox 12.0. I definitely not a blue screen. I canceled my upload to Youtube for the sake of not wanting to induce another freeze (if that is causing it). So I am halfway done uploading my 30sec video to photobucket. You'll see exactly what I'm getting.
MVI_0298.mp4 video by Crazyjay345 - Photobucket
Here it is.
-I can move my mouse but the computer but the processor light isn't blinking.
-Any sound playing the instant before the crash, freezes than stops.
-There is no sound playing through the speakers.
-The screen flashes and flickers (in video).
-I can see what used to on the screen but it is now layered under a distortion of wrongly colored pixels.
-The only vertical lines that seem visible are at the top of the browser. -
Eww yeah. Have you tried using (can't believe I'm saying this) Internet Explorer to watch Youtube videos as opposed to Firefox, and does this re-create the problem?
Also the other thread mentioned that the newest Nvidia drivers could be the culprit. Have you tried updating those or downgrading them? -
I'm forgetting to mention things left and right! I have version 296.10 for the driver. What version do you have since we both have the same GPU?
-
Latest version is 301.42, you could give them a try.
-
Haha not a problem! I'm using the 301.42 drivers but haven't had any issues with them.
Do you do any gaming? If the issue doesn't happen during gaming stress, I'd be pretty sure we could rule out some kind of hardware issue.
I think first I'd try to see if the issue happens in another web browser. That way we could rule out the flash player and the browser.
Edit: And just as good measure, I would also uninstall Adobe Flash player or whatever, and download and install the latest version from their website. -
Update to newest driver than watch a bunch of videos on I.E. if it doesn't crash then try firefox and if it doesn't crash then try a game.
or update and play the game first
or don't update until after I have watch videos on I.E. and played a game. -
-
After you restart your computer, try videos on IE. If that works, try some games.
If all that works, try Firefox again? -
Its installing right now as I type this. There wasn't a "clean" install option, only the normal "express" and "custom" options. I chose "express". Most "Express" installs for any program normally uninstall the older version. Be it driver or just program.
-I updated Adobe Flash for I.E. as I'm sure it was old (I never use I.E.)
-I blindly reinstalled Adobe Flash for Firefox (I'm not sure if it was out of date, but I recall updating it not to long ago).
-I update Adobe Shockwave for Firefox just incase even though I know for a fact Flash and Shock don't have any relation.
-Installed a update for the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter
-Installed a update for the Intel Management Engine Interface
-Installed a update for Windows 7 64b (KB2718704)
I'll either post any crash results tonight, or very early morning or late morning (all my time -5:00). Since each crash has a different time frame it's hard to predict *when it will crash. I'll be pretty busy tomorrow past noon so if I don't respond before then, don't be mislead into thinking that the problem is solved and I'm never going to come back to this thread and explain the solution. I don't like leaving people out to dry and future viewers with their problems wondering what I did to fix my problem.
Also I think I should contribute to my Astro Scout backpack woes and to provide some more reference pictures for people looking to buy a backpack for their lappys. The more pics the less questions people have! ;D -
That looked like a video card-related crash. Hopefully the updates fixed it.
-
"Pink Screen" lockups when viewing YouTube videos have been reported for NVIDIA driver 296.10. I would recommend backrevving to 285.62 with a clean install (choose "Custom Install" and check the "Clean Install" checkbox) from Safe Mode to disable other running drivers (like Antivirus) that may interfere with the NVIDIA driver installation. If you are more daring, you could also try version 295.73, or the latest 301.42 WHQL - both of these appear more stable than your current 296.10.

Sometimes the latest drivers are not the most stable.
