BIOS is a Read Only update for your computer which requires a Flash to complete. There are two rules that I like to stick by when updating the BIOS.

    1. ONLY update the BIOS if you need to, if you do not have any issues that affect you using the computer then don't flash the BIOS.

    2. Never flash inside windows always flash using an external bootable USB Drive.

Happy to walk you through the process but first please confirm if you need to do this the best thing to do is to read what BIOS 202 updates as rarely do you actually need to do it. Companies are quick to say you require it without warning you of the consequences if it goes wrong which is the worst happens you will be without your laptop for a while as it will become a paper weight.

In your case it sounds like you may already have a later BIOS or you may need a different one to update it. You can check what BIOS you are running by running HWINFO and clicking on summary. You should have something like this.

If you need to update your bios:

Get the file directly from the download page for the G74 on the Asus support site.

Then use the EZFlash method decribed here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/174395-bios-update-guide-asus-notebooks.html. Make sure that the thumb drive you're using is formatted in FAT32 if you don't want to brick your laptop.

Also, trash LiveUpdate form your computer, your computer doesn't deserve the torture that LiveUpdate is. Seriously, this program is a piece of junk.

Why do you need to update your BIOS? The majority of the time people bust their laptop updating when they don't need to. If you want to do it as Tijo said above don't use Asus update.

    1. Are you German and is your keyboard causing you problems?
    2. Do you use the Express Card?
    3. Is your laptop overheating?
    4. Asus making up stuff again.

Unless any of these things are affecting you there is no need. But if you want to do as above Tijo said use EZflash.
