Hey all i am just wondering if it was possible to remove the glossy 17.3" 1920 x 1080 Full HD (16:9) LED Backlit Glare Type Display with a 17.3" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 72% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080)? If so how difficult would it be? Any guides online? Any retailer online that sells LCD screens for that model?

    Thanks!

replace screen -> ASUS G74S Laptop Screen Replacement Procedure - YouTube

I believe the G74sx has a Chimei Innolux screen model no. N173HGE-L21

You're on your own for finding the matte replacement, but I'm sure it's a quick google search away.

Personally, the only thing that would warrant me replacing my G74sx screen is if I could find a panel that is: FullHD, LED backlit, 92% color gamut, and 8bit

The 3D panel used for the 3DE is matte: P/N 18G241730120Q

You'll also need the matching LVCD cable (50 pin)

    Case: 1596021

That's interesting, so does that mean that the panel of the cheaper G74sx-a1 series can be swapped out with the 3d Matte monitor with the proper cable or is the motherboard connection different as well?

I would assume it's the same, as (I'm pretty sure) both use the GeForce 560M video card/chipset (my G74S-XR1 uses this). From the sounds of it based on lurking around on the ROG forums, all you'd have to swap is the panel and the cable. BUT, in order to swap the cable, you would have to break into the main chassis of the laptop, just FYI. If you wanted the integrated emitter for the 3D glasses, you'd have to replace the entire panel portion (panel, panel housing and cable) too. At least that's the impression I've gotten from the digging around I've done. I've been curious as I have a G74S-XR1 with the glossy non-3D 1920x1080 screen that's developed a stuck pixel and wanted to take the opportunity to replace it with the 1920x1080 3D capable matte display.

Chastity, can you verify if my findings are correct? If yes, are you able to provide the part numbers for the 50-pin cable and the panel housing with integrated emitter? I've tried multiple times to contact ASUS directly about this, but my attempts have been unsuccessful.

I managed to get a hold of XoticPC (who built my laptop) and according to them, the 3DE shipped with a different motherboard than other models of the G74S, and the 3D capable screen (regardless of the 50-pin cable) would not work with anything other than the 3DE. Kind of a bummer, but at least now we know for sure.

You would need to purchase the whole upper half, plus motherboard, plus glasses.

Getting one on a refurb would prolly be easier and possibly cheaper. :)

Or do what I did and get a nice 46" 3DTV and connect via HDMI.

I'll stick with non-3D screens.... Chas, do you know if there is a true 8-bit 1080p screen replacement for our G74's?
