On January 6th, I submitted an RMA request for my ASUS G51VX-X1A. The notebook would no longer accept power.

It took about two weeks and five emails/calls to receive the prepaid FedEx label. Once I got it, I promptly sent in the notebook.

Fast forward to today. I finally got the notebook back. It powers on now. However, there's something off about the screen.

The G51VX-X1A was a model sold by Newegg. It included a 1080p screen. However, what I received back was a 1366x768 screen. The notebook was also all scratched up, and the DVD tray cover was broken.

Why did they replace the screen?! The screen was working fine and was unrelated to the issue!

I am very upset about this. I've been without my notebook for a month. I have had to use my college's computers to do my online classes. This is unacceptable!

I left Trinity Sparks a voice mail. I hope she calls me back. In the mean time, does anyone have any advice for me regarding this situation?

    Thank you in advance!

The more I read the more Asus Indy sounds like a bottomless pit of problems... Hopefully Trinity will get your going again otherwise theres always roadtripping to indy and sitting on their steps til you get something done. I know not practical but could be gratifying.

I am sorry to hear of your problem with ASUS Indy. It is always best to request service to go through ASUS in California. There has been more problems with RMA's coming out of Indiana compared to California. With the amount of time with out your system and it needs to go back you can always try asking them to cover overnight shipping both ways and expedited repair.

Mine wound up at the California facility about two months ago. They did major surgery on it... lots of parts replaced. It came back perfect. There wasn't a scratch or smudge on it anywhere when they were finished. My first RMA number was going to go to Indiana so I called back and got a different RMA number and specifically asked to have it repaired at the Cali facility.

I managed to get a hold of Trinity today. She really is the "miracle worker" that everyone says she is.

She created a new RMA with free overnight shipping to California. They're going to remove the 1366x768 screen and put another 1080p screen in it. They're also going to fix the power issue that Indy failed to address.

I finally got a tracking number from Asus Indy on my RMA, about a month later.

If they tinkered with anything, and it's different in any way shape or form, I'm gonna throw the biggest complaint in my life.

Seriously, from the horror stories ive read about ASUS Indy, they should just close the thing down... its doing terrible things for their reputation. Its kinda like, Asus makes good stuff but if it goes wrong your screwed.

OMG I had no idea there were two separate facilities. I just sent mine in this week to Indy. :-( Oh well, I guess I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

No Joke, see if you can get it back asap. You'll be better off doing that and sending it to the cali facility. You'll get it back faster doing this.

Asus Indy is an automatic 1 month RMA, no matter what.

Asus Indiana is just plain annoying to have to deal with. Never again for me.

Whoa, it's actually kind of cool that there's a good place and a bad place, rather than just one place that half the time is good and half the time is bad

Good to know though. I hate how often this stuff isn't taken seriously by companies. I'd sure try to make sure every hardware problem got fixed perfectly if I worked for or ran a repair center like that.

So, you're saying the Indy folks probably won't appreciate that I included a tube of Arctic MX-2 to assist in the repaste? Lol. Ohwell. They got it on Friday. I'll post back on my experience with them.

I have been meaning to RMA mine for months now but wouldn't because of the shortage and turnaround times back then. Now I see people saying that Indy is a month wait...what's the average turnaround for the CA facility now? I wouldn't mind RMAing now if I would have my machine back within 2 weeks or something.

It also can depend on whether you or your reseller are handling the RMA. Certain authorized resellers have a bit of experience with Asus due to having taken care of numerous RMAs and know who to contact to get things moving.

What the heck they did to your laptop? They made it worse. Where do you have to complain about that matter...RMA to a different country?
