Not a lot of reviews so far because it's not officially released yet. According to Amazon, it seems like it'd be released at the end of this month or early August. So I'd honestly wait for more reviews to come out, especially NotebookCheck's if you can wait that long.

Excellent! Hope you like it. Could you boot to ubuntu live off a usb drive with it, and see if the machine remembers your light bar preferences(off) when you last configured it via the windows app? Thanks!

Its on the top performance strata of its category... in return, expect it to run on the hot side. Undervolting should soothe this issue accordingly. In a nutshell, its a hot but awesome laptop sitting on the higher side of the price tag.

This is from @ZerockX. Its got the data to answer your question.

Hey guys. I got this laptop the other day!

Could anyone knowledgeable with undervolting help me out?

Running Cinebench i get 1130 or something. But i run like 88-90c during that minute. Normal web use is about 45c.

Ive tried undervolting with little to no success. -.100 CPU core and cache crashes my pc during a stress test. BSOD. Obviously anything higher will do the same. -.50 works but my cinebench drops to 1008.

    What do i do???

Thanks for that great info. You saved a few days of curiosity on this new model.
    I'm currently sporting the gl703ge.

I'd recommend you repaste as I know the laptop you have has better cooling than mine (one of the fans has two blow out areas)

    Hi Guys..

I'm planning to buy hero 2.. how are temps so far.. heard these models are not undervolt friendly.. is that true?

All I care about is thermals.. I have read some mixed feedback about thermals. Some say great thermal management and some are complaining about heating issues.

I'm also considering HP omen with 1060.. which one would you recommend?

    Thanks..

    Why not msi gp63/73?

Reason i'm asking is I was looking into asus first due to their sleek look. After a few months of throttling (which isn't a big a issue for gamers as long as fps is acceptable), I moved to msi gp63 then gp73. I couldn't be happier. Finally the 8750h performing as it should and 1060GTX is extra bonus (i don't game). Whenever i push this laptop it overly delivers.

A review comparing Hero 2 with other laptops.

Note that the Hero 2 in this review has liquid metal applied. You should consider getting it from vendors like HIDEvolution, as they can do the liquid metal application for you.

I agree with you as MSI laptops are known for robust cooling but I'm from India.

Here in India we don't have proper service centers in India (at least where I live)

I would love to get a laptop from Hidevolution.. they are the best but I'm from India.. I guess I'm out of luck lol.. :D

I watched the review but thermals are tested without the stick paste. :(

The premium one is 0.5mm, and the standard one typically used is 1.0mm.

I guess I'll go for the 1.0mm just in case.

EDIT: TBH I've never seen a laptop manufacturer use paste on the VRMs...that to me is odd.

Walmart has this one at $1,150. The specs are good on it with the 1060, but I'll want to add another stick of Ram with it's 8 gb. Anyone know if the 8 gb ram is two 4 gb sticks? What are the thoughts on this laptops thermal performance now that it has been out for a while?

    Good questions.
Has anyone had experience with all the RGB in Ubuntu/linux? Able to turn it off?

It doesn't turn off without the utility. Unless you can tap into EC firmware to change functions.

Yikes! I definitely thought Asus cleaned up their act but removing control from users (like adjusting fan curve) is causing them to be too smart for their own good (building a system that self manages itself).

I believe the Overpowered 15/17 have similar aesthetics to the asus whilst offering control to the user.

I still think Asus aesthetics and is a well rounded laptop but performance (random might I say) isn't helping them.

I've already posted to reddit to allow for manual fan curve and even with so many upvotes they haven't added it to their gaming center :/

    Try disabling xtu in services.msc
    Also any “asus” sounding service.

    This might help debug

Sorry for being vague (was on phone).

The heatsink i shared so maybe the cpu might be heating up and causing gpu to throttle. Have you passed your hand next to the cpu and gpu exhausts. Just to sense if there's some disproportionate amount of heat released?
